Job Description

Unite Students` Projects Team have an opportunity for a Cost Manager to join the team.The Projects Team are tasked with delivery of the Cladding Remediation Strategy for each property in the estate.The main purpose of this function is to contribute to Unite Students` continued commitment to safety and compliance through expert management of the Cladding Remediation Strategy.Working with the team you will be responsible for all aspects of the financial performance of all Cladding Projects.What you`ll be doing

  • Responsible for financial governance
  • Responsible for project forecast and cashflow
  • Monitor and reporting financial performance of projects
  • Control all relevant expenditure/variation for each project.
  • Analyse project costs v budgets and provide commentary.
  • Overseeing project records and contracts to ensure terms are adhered to.
  • Review and approve supplier invoices related to a project
  • Business partnering with non-finance Project managers / stakeholders
  • Report on project costs to senior management.
  • Own the financial aspects of the business case for each proposed project
  • Assisting Claims Managers with clarifying costs
  • Analyse the contract scope against cost plans and make recommendations for challenge

  • Significant experience in cost management
  • Must be highly analytical with strong attention to detail
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Willing to step in and assist the wider team when required
  • Experience in the procurement of construction contracts
  • Demonstrable strong negotiation skills
  • Ability to work at pace whilst maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Possesses a positive attitude, with the ability to adapt swiftly and a willingness to undertake challenging tasks to ensure customer/ stakeholder satisfaction
  • Self-motivated and possessing the ability to work on own initiative and as within a team
  • A quick learner, demonstrates a capability and willingness to acquire and apply new skills and learning
  • Well-developed communication and influencing skills, able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to build relationships and influence internal and external stakeholders
Desirable
  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction or Engineering
  • Professionally qualified member of CIOB/RICS/CIPS
  • Knowledge of and experience of contracts such as JCT, NEC
  • Knowledge joint venture reporting
  • Experience in claims management
  • Experience in Major Cladding Projects
  • A knowledge of the student accommodation market
