Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a new Consultant post for you to considerWithin a Trust that has been recently awarded for the second time ‘Outstanding’ by the CQC, Bristol Royal Hospital for Children (BRHC) is one of the most established and cutting-edge Children’s Hospitals in Europe. We are so proud of our Hospital and the strong commitment to evidenced based care and research.Bristol has a very active malignant haematology service, serving as the primary treatment centre for all children with malignant disease from across the South West area. There are approximately 35-40 new malignant haematology referrals per year. Inpatient care is provided in a 17 bedded paediatric oncology and stem cell transplant unit, 4 dedicated adolescent oncology beds on the children’s hospital adolescent ward and the TYA unit in the adjacent adult oncology building.The role involves attending daytime one week in three for the care of malignant haematology patients in Bristol and contributing to the weekly leukaemia clinic. A job plan adjustment to include an area of special interest within non-malignant haematology or other related specialty (such as palliative care, late effects, research) would be possible for interested and suitably qualified applicants. This post would particularly suit applicants with training in paediatric oncology although applications from suitably qualified paediatric haematologists would also be welcome. With strong links to the University of Bristol and University of West of England we are the major medical research centre in the region. The findings allow us to continually improve our patient care.Our academic links also make us the largest centre for medical training in the South West, attracting the highest calibre clinical staff from across the UK. Staff throughout the Trust are involved in a thriving research portfolio, comprising around 450 varied, pioneering projects resulting in approximately 600 published papers each year.We are located in the centre of the beautiful city of Bristol, which has been voted best place to live.   • Have MRCPCH/MRCP (or equivalent) and be a holder of their CCT or be within 6 months of award of CCT (or equivalent) by the time of interview
  • Have experience in teaching and training registrars rotating within the department
  • Have the ability to take the lead when caring for children and their families
  • Have exceptional communication skills and work together in a multidisciplinary team
  • Be able to start as soon as possible
