Job Description

Commercial Underwriter (Farming) - Victor Insurance - BristolRole:

  • We are seeking an Agricultural Underwriter with experience in Motor as well as Farm Combined is advantageous. Consideration for Commercial Combined or wider motor fleet experience.
    • Responsibilities:
  • Manage a case load of dedicated brokers, supporting the Development Underwriters and Head of Agriculture to seek out and maintain new opportunities.
  • Reviews and analyzes major submissions without assistance, and identifies new business opportunities to generate new accounts while maintaining a book of existing business.
  • Conducts quality assurance of the insurance risk calculations from junior underwriting staff.
  • Completes policy issuance and handles account transactions by negotiating and obtaining mutual agreement from clients, and binds coverage and initiates issuance of documents.
  • Identifies and obtains additional information required for proper analysis of risk including cross-referencing with other departments.
  • Declines quotes by identifying loss predictions, and forwarding recommendations.
  • Reviews and analyzes new submissions for context and requirements in adherence to state laws and regulations for ratings and quotations.
  • Establishes and maintains business relationships with carriers and brokers to negotiate terms and conditions and to expand business with the client account.
    • Skills and Experience
  • To work under pressure to provide quality fast-paced underwriting solutions to commercial clients
  • To effectively decide which insurer’s product would be most suitable for client’s needs.
  • To clear terms for quotes sent by the executives within the the new business, renewals and certsure teams with due reference to premium, terms & conditions and policy endorsements.
  • To provide effective support to others in the team and to the new business, renewals and certsure teams.
  • To provide solutions to queries and technical assistance for other departments.
  • To liaise with insurers and maintain relationships.
  • To develop an understanding of insurance underwriting principles.
  • To operate to a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate relevant experience in managing underwriting risks
  • Good understanding surrounding the general principles of underwriting
  • Experienced working under pressure within a demanding environment
  • Relevant track record in negotiation, team work, customer resolution and conflict handling
  • Commercial minded with flair for negotiations and attention to detail
