If you arenot located near a main office, we will consider a remote-/hybridworking arrangement.The RoleAECOM is looking to recruit a HV primary design focused Technical Director to lead the Electricity Transmission Workstream in our UK Transmission and Distribution (T&D) department. Our T&D team delivers HV design for electrical power projects at transmissionand distribution voltage levels. The focus of this role is:To lead the HV design workstream (circa 20 staff) on a portfolio of projects related to electricity transmission infrastructure, EHV/HV grid connections, and private networks at voltage levels normally between 110kV to 400kV. Typical projects include feasibilitystudies, optioneering, FEED, detailed design and design assurance on existing or new substations, grid connections and other transmission connected infrastructure.Lead business development and client engagement on portfolio of clients such as National Grid, data centre developers, large commercial and industrial companies.Lead on internal governance related to bidding and project delivery.This is a very senior role within AECOMs UK&I T&D practice, which requires a strong technical understanding of the T&D sector, excellent leadership ability and the ability to gain the confidence and trust of major clients. The ability to identify the mostappropriate solutions to a wide range of projects, including promoting innovative ideas is an important requirement of the role.The work typically comes from:

  • Large projects and frameworks with transmission network operators mostly in UK and Ireland but also in the Middle East and other regions globally.
  • Client and owners engineer role on construction of HV infrastructure.
  • Connections of renewable generation and major demand customers, including hyperscale data centres.
  • Supporting internal AECOM clients delivering large industrial and electrification projects.
The role is focused on primary plant, but an understanding of secondary system design will be advantageous. The Transmission Lead will need to take an active role in the full range of project life-cycle activities from bidding and work-winning, through pre-contractdesign to final commissioning and handover.The role is a key position in the T&D practice leadership, reporting directly to the T&D Practice Lead. In addition to the engineering responsibilities, this role includes leading business development bidding activities, participating in the strategic developmentof the practice, building the team and supporting all parts of the AECOM business. There are opportunities to support the global AECOM T&D practice. Minimum Requirements
  • Wide ranging experience of all aspects of electricity transmission infrastructure projects
  • Substantial previous UK experience within a consultancy, contractor in the energy sector.(utilities experience will also be considered)
  • Previous experience leading teams and operating at a senior leadership level within a consultancy, contractor or utility in the electricity energy sector.
  • Some past experience as FEED designer, detailed design or owners engineer role.
  • Extensive client facing experience ideally in the transmission utility and developer community in UK.
  • Understanding of electrical plant items and control systems such as transformers, circuit breakers, HVDC system
  • Previous experience within bidding and business development as this is a key aspect of the role
