Job Description

Sustainability ManagerLocation: PeterboroughJob Type: TemporaryDuration of booking: Expected to last up to 12 weeks with the possibility of an extensionProposed start date: ASAPSector: HealthcareBase: HospitalBand: 7Pay Rates: £24-£26 PAYE pay per hour£25-£27 PAYE inclusive of holiday pay per hourDepending on skill and experienceWorking Days and Hours: Monday to Friday 8:00am-4:00pmCandidate will have a primary base however will be required to travel between sites.Job Summary:The post holder must have a passion for sustainability and will be responsible for driving the implementation of the Trusts Green Plan. It is essential that the post-holder progresses the organisation toward Net Zero and decarbonisation.Main Duties:Accountable Lead within the Trust for Sustainability. Examples of this requirement include:

  • Be the Trust-wide lead and provide expert knowledge on all aspects of environmental sustainability which will require making judgments involving complex facts or a situation which relate to environmental sustainability - requiring analysis, interpretationand comparison of a range of options.
  • Working with all areas of the Trust to ensure that we integrate sustainable development into our core business and ensure our use of resources is efficient. This will include, but not be limited to, operational, estates, procurement, human resources andfinance colleagues
  • Maintain and develop the sustainability training offer for staff and stakeholders and develop a network of sustainability champions across the Trust. You will be required to co-ordinate the training offer and provide some of the delivery capacity whererequired.
  • Working with our ICS partner organisations, engage with and support a system wide approach to sustainability.
  • Support teams and departments that are undertaking projects to improve models of care to reduce environmental impact and carbon footprint, and ensure that outcomes are captured and reported.
  • The post holder will be required to take account of the skills required for activities such as planning or organising projects, reports, meetings, conferences.
  • Take account of the complexity and degree of uncertainty involved in these activities.
  • The post holder would be required to plan and organise a broad range of complex activities in relation to environmental sustainability which impact the Trust as an organisation.
  • To support patient and user-led involvement working groups and other groups as required.
  • Responsible for implementing the sustainable travel plan working with colleagues across operational services, human resources and staff side
  • Working alongside procurement colleagues ensure the development of a sustainable procurement approach across the Trust.
  • Responsible for sustainability reporting for the Trust.
Skills/Qualifications needed:
  • Degree (or equivalent specialist knowledge) in a science, environmental or other relevant discipline.
  • Post graduate qualification in a relevant subject area (e.g. environmental management)
  • Chartered Member of a relevant professional body such as IEMA
  • Sustainability/Waste/Energy/Facilities Management qualification
  • NEBOSH /IOSH Health and Safety qualification: Member of an appropriate professional body. (e.g. IEMA, IWFM, RICS & Hefma).
  • Experience of working in an estates/facilities role
  • Experience in developing organisational policies and procedures
  • Knowledge and experience of procurement and tendering for specialist advice or services
  • Specialist knowledge of sustainability and environmental management
  • A working knowledge of Waste Management Legislation Extensive Experience of management of Energy or Waste contracts
  • Knowledge of NHS policies, procedures and structures.
  • Experience of public sector tendering for service contractors - and experience of the OJEU Procurement Process.
