Site Name: USA - Pennsylvania - Philadelphia, UK - London - BrentfordPosted Date: Jun 23 2020GSK’s Communications and Government Affairs (CGA) function is seeking a Head of Data & Insights to lead a newly formed team that will enable us to move towards our ambition:“To be a data led and insights driven function that effectively and efficiently uses data to inform, improve and inspire what we do to further engage our audiences and ultimately deliver against our Innovation, Performance, Trust and Culture (IPTC) priorities”. We understand the importance of data, analytics and insight to deliver on our priorities and have placed increased emphasis on growing our capability. We’ve been working in partnership with external experts to shape our ambition and roadmap and we’re excited about the opportunities ahead.CGA is a function with around 600 people across the globe, and a remit spanning Corporate Affairs, Media & Digital, Government Affairs, Brand, Reputation and Internal Engagement, with an important purpose: informing the development of GSK strategy through the insights we bring on our operating environment and stakeholders; supporting execution of our IPTC priorities; and building confidence in GSK strategy and its execution. It’s an exciting and important time to join the team with an important agenda to deliver on Innovation - as we launch new medicines and continue to strengthen our R&D pipeline. We also have a critical role to play in the previously announced separation of GSK into two new companies, alongside important and ongoing efforts to modernise how we engage with our employees. Rich, meaningful and actionable insights – grounded in data – that inform strategy development, campaigns and outputs are integral to delivering on this purpose.Building on work done to date, you will be expected to bring strong technical capability alongside an ability to mobilise the CGA function to work in a different way, with data and insight at the forefront. You will provide leadership, planning and execution for this newly formed team. To enable this, you will set a clear and compelling vision, strategy and roadmap for evolving our data and insight capability. This will require working closely with internal partners (e.g. CGA Leadership Team members, campaign leads, channel leads etc.) to inform strategies and plans, monitor and evaluate impact and outcomes throughout execution, and cross-fertilise insights and learnings to shape decision-making in CGA more broadly. It is an exciting and challenging role that will require strong and inspirational leadership, deep expertise / networks and the ability to drive technical and cultural change at scale.This role will provide you the opportunity to lead key activities to progress your career. These responsibilities include some of the following:

  • Be the catalyst to drive a more insight driven mindset and approach across CGA and enable the function to transform how we use data - to enhance the way we achieve our IPTC objectives; no data for datas sake.
  • Provide overall team leadership and talent development for the newly formed Data & Insights team, currently comprising of 4 FT people. Continuously review required capabilities / team composition (including use of external resource) to deliver the strategy.
  • Monitor and analyse data sources from a range of internal channels and external sources, uncover trends and use the data to develop actionable insights for application through our channels and campaigns.
  • Be the strategic data leader for the CGA function with accountability for making decisions around approach to data needs.
  • Seek to evolve our Data and Insights capability beyond descriptive analytics to a more comprehensive framework involving predictive analytics.
  • Confidently and persuasively communicate key findings, issues and recommendations to CGA’s Leadership Team and wider business stakeholders.
  • Manage day to day operations developing optimal structures and processes for successful data and insights service delivery.
  • Manage external supplier relationships including contract negotiation, supplier review and onboarding.
  • Ensure we are compliant with the latest data management requirements on the way businesses collect, store and manage personal data.
  • Develop and build data and insights capabilities with communicators in mind and make data accessible and relatable for all.
  • Keep abreast of industry trends. You should stay on top of industry trends in both the data and insights, flagging opportunities and threats

Why you Basic Qualifications:We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
  • Bachelor’s degree and significant experience in related non-academic field
  • Demonstrable working knowledge of a variety of data, analytics and insight skills in a non-academic setting involving issues management and / or stakeholder engagement
  • Background in progressively more senior roles working at an enterprise level with or within a complex organisation, with demonstrable experience of successfully building and delivering a similar capability
  • Significant experience of building and leading a team including team / individual development (coaching and mentoring)
  • Significant experience of driving technical and cultural transformational change
  • Excellent problem solver, with a proven track record of applying data, analytics and research to inform decision-making
  • Excellent partnering skills - able to effectively influence and inform the global roadmaps in a collaborative fashion
  • Experience of handling conflicting viewpoints, using strong influencing and persuasion skills to gain consensus amongst stakeholders
  • Experience in social listening, text reading, recommendation engines, segmentations, personalisation, monitoring and digital product developmentProficient in extracting and analysing data from key sources, including: Workplace by Facebook, Sprinklr, Brandwatch, Poppulo, Social Chorus, Google Analytics or similar tools.<
