Textile Lattice Conveyor Maker - £340.00 per week plus bonus of around £200.00 per week plus 33 days holiday per yearBradford BD3Full timeElliott Musgrave Ltd., established in 1904, make and repair lattice conveyors for feeding textile fibre into processing machines. These conveyors - a type of conveyor belt - comprise wooden laths riveted to several driving belts, or a single wide belt. For horizontal feeding they are relatively simple, for vertical feeding they are fitted with sharp pins/spikes to lift fibre to feed it through a weigh system. The build of the lattice may be relatively lightweight, for feeding a Carding Machine, or really heavy duty, for opening bales of fibre, and very many variations between, for the blending of fibre. We produce the wooden laths in our own moulding mill, cut our own belting from "slab" (full rolls), and keep PVC belting in slab, for cutting to size, so as to be in control of the quality aspects. We are the only U.K. manufacturer of these specialised parts, and our quality is second to none. The PositionThe job requirement covers cutting belts or belting accurately to size and fitting belt fasteners. Wooden laths of varying shape and size are cut from stock bundles using "snip saws". They are marked out for rivets and pin pattern. Holes are drilled for rivets, using pillar drills, and drilled for pins using multi-spindle drills. Pins are inserted using a press. A lattice is built up on a table or special frame, and may incorporate a fabric lining.Very often, damaged lattices are repaired - repairs can be relatively minor, say the replacement of the belt fasteners, or a complete strip down and rebuild.Frequently, we may have to remove a damaged lattice from a machine and fit the replacement. When other damage requires it, we will remove the driving rollers, bring them to our engineering machine shop for repair, and we then re-fit the lot. There may be other parts to fit, such as bearings. Support structures are made or repaired in the engineering shop. Fitting work is part of the lattice shop’s production.Lattices vary tremendously, and we make them up to 4.5 metres / 14’-6" wide, similarly, driving rollers can be 300mm / 11" diameter and 4.5 metres long; it is heavy duty kit. We also do small jobs.Duties and Responsibilities·Accurately measuring and marking up stock parts and materials, cutting to size. Typically, pulling the PVC belting off the roll and onto a table, measuring and cutting to size. A single belt could be up to 7.600 metres / 25’-0" long and 2.500 metres / 8’-6" wide and, at times, much wider. Many lattices will use several narrow belts, requiring cutting from stock rolls.·Preparing the belt or belts, marking out for rivet and pin pattern or other features. Fitting the belt fasteners.·Cutting hardwood laths to length, finishing the ends, marking up for rivet and pin pattern.·Drilling for rivets (or bolts, as the case may be), and for pins/spikes, and pressing in the pins.·Setting up jigs as required for assembly, and building up the lattice.Ideal attributes·Apprentice or formally trained background in a woodworking discipline, such as joinery, would be useful, though not essential.·A careful approach to measuring - our work can be in Metric or Imperial and, occasionally, both Metric and Imperial on the same job.·Training is given, of course, but in due course the ability to work on one’s own is important.·The ability to finish a part properly, and accurately; we value our reputation for producing high quality products, and expect employees to do so.Interested Please send us your CV by return.
