Job Description

Job Summary/ Main PurposeWork as the Geoenvironmental Engineer within the Geo-Environmental Team. Responsible for technical input to Phase I and Phase II investigations and remediation where this applies to geotechnical works. This includes provision of proposals, project planning management of company resources (office or site based) and subcontractors, completion of appropriate scheduling of laboratory testing, site monitoring, data assessment, reporting and financial performance.Main Responsibilities·Provide solutions to technical problems and ability to provide technical reports. ·Provide clear and factually correct reports that require negligible amendment by authorising signatory. ·To demonstrate a working knowledge of the Group Health and Safety policy and production of site-specific risk assessments. ·When requested, to provide proactive input into team and Company initiatives. ·To demonstrate an understanding and comply with company policies, procedures, legislation and work within agreed resources. ·Contribute to the achievements of the team and Company objectives. ·To develop and maintain positive working relationships with both internal and external clients and suppliers. ·To contribute to personal and collective safety. ·Demonstrate willingness and take a proactive approach to ongoing CPD, such as attendance at courses and professional meetings.Technical knowledge & application·To demonstrate the ability to design conceptual models to understand the ground conditions in advance of ground investigation. ·To demonstrate the ability to describe soils and rocks to BS5930 and prepare logs. ·To demonstrate a working knowledge of Geo Environmental investigation, sampling and in situ testing. ·To demonstrate a working knowledge of appropriate chemical and geotechnical laboratory testing, scheduling and interpretation. ·To demonstrate a basic knowledge of environmental issues including Generic Risk Assessment for human health and groundwater risk assessment. ·To demonstrate a working knowledge of the development of appropriate ground models and associated ground water and geotechnical design parameters for slopes, earthworks, road pavements, retaining walls and foundations. ·To demonstrate a working knowledge of appropriate design methods for shallow foundations (bearing capacity) piles, retaining walls, earthworks, pavements, geotechnical structure and slope stability. ·To demonstrate a working knowledge in the interpretation of geological maps published data and site walkover information in assessing geotechnical risks (e.g. slope stability, soft ground, mining) for Phase I and Phase II investigations. ·To demonstrate a working knowledge of the requirements and guidance provided by appropriate British Standards (for Earthworks, Site Investigation, Foundations and ground gas), appropriate Highways Agency Documents (for Earthworks and other geotechnical structures) and specialist guidance prepared by BRE (e.g. sulphates, ground improvement, construction on fill), CIRIA Reports. ·To demonstrate a working knowledge in the technical management of investigations (e.g. recognise when ground conditions are at variance from those anticipated and require the investigation to be varied and appropriate interfacing with other disciplines and/or Client). ·To demonstrate and show development of effective interfacing with other disciplines and clients (e.g. develop an appreciation of structural types, associated loadings and alternative solutions in different ground conditions, drainage strategy etc.) ·To demonstrate a working knowledge and developing appreciation of Health and Safety requirements and associated regulations. ·To demonstrate an ability to write clear and concise factual reports. ·To demonstrate an ability to prepare clear, concise and effective interpretative reports.Knowledge (technical) & Qualification·Bachelor degree in Earth Sciences or Civil Engineering. ·Postgraduate degree in Earth Sciences or Civil Engineering. ·In lieu of a Postgraduate degree, sufficient work experience to demonstrate an equivalent knowledge. ·To demonstrate a working knowledge and show developing expertise in the use of software packages including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Holebase, slope stability software and a basic understanding of AutoCAD.
