Job Description

  • be responsible for managing the Independent Living Service in a designated area by delivering intensive housing management, which encompasses the five key outcomes identified on the housing action plan.
  • develop an effective housing action and risk management plan with each customer, that meets their outcomes as identified from needs and risk assessments
  • liaise with any relevant agencies as detailed or identified within a customers housing action plan
  • test dispersed alarm equipment/hard wired equipment on a regular basis. When necessary, report, investigate and rectify issues
  • Report lift faults to the Contact Centre/contractor, facilitates essential maintenance and ensure that tenants are given adequate prior notice of lifts being inoperative
  • maintain efficient administrative system to ensure the accuracy of information and records relating to service/service users. Notify the relevant alarm monitoring agency of any changes to information held about service and service users, including tenantabsences
  • review housing action and risk management plans at 12 monthly intervals as a minimum, and in accordance with policy and service standard
  • supply scheme Performance Indicator information and statistics when required
  • ensure that data/ information is lawfully gathered, accurate and up to date and only divulged in accordance with the Data Protection Act and GDPR regulations
  • Referral of serious Anti-Social Behaviour cases to the Anti-Social behaviour Team. To deal with low level cases of ASB and record on case management systems
  • Monitoring the status of all void properties in the area, ensuring key information is up to date and reporting any variances to the Independent Living Manager and/or Maintenance Manager. To complete all viewing of properties
  • Advise tenants and customers regarding the organisations policies and procedures
  • Contribute to the development of the service by attending focus groups/staff meetings, as required
  • liaise with the Furnished Package Officer in the management of furniture packages by monitoring that furniture is not damaged/ removed from the tenancy
  • recommend improvements to estates and carry out estate management functions. To inform the Independent Living Manager of any recommendations
  • carry out Estate Walkabouts and patrols with the NHO for the service as designated by the Independent Living Manager or the Team Leader
  • deal with routine enquiries and correspondence within corporate time scales
  • prepare reports to Independent Living Manager/senior staff as required
  • liaise with external agencies, other departments, key stakeholders and community organisations as necessary to ensure effective service delivery
  • attend case conferences and problem-solving groups, as required
  • complete compliance/health and safety checks/risk assessments as required
  • meet appraisal targets and support the delivery and achievement of overall business objectives

  • comply with section 7 of the Health and Safety at Work Act and take reasonable care of your own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by your acts and omissions

To be successful in an Independent Living Officer role, the skills you will need:
  • To be educated to GCSE standard of equivalent
  • To be educated to CIH Level 3 Certificate in Housing Practice or willingness to study this qualification
  • Previous experience of working with, and thorough understanding of dealing with vulnerable group
  • Understanding of issues faced in a social housing environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and to manage own workload without direct supervision
  • Ability to work in and adapt to a changing environment
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to prioritise own workload in order to meet deadlines
  • Good standard of ICT literacy and the confidence to use Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel on a daily basis
  • Knowledge and understanding of the role of social housing
  • Commitment to customer care
  • Willingness to seek responsibility
  • Full driving licence and use of a car for work
  • Prepared to attend evening meetings
  • Ability to work remotely and flexibly where appropriate
  • Excellent communication skills, able to communicate across multiple channels including Microsoft Teams, Face to Face and Email.
Experience or Knowledge of the below would be advantageous but not essential:
  • Experience of liaising with social, medical and care agencies
  • Previous experience of housing management
  • Knowledge of housing legislation
