School of Health & Life SciencesLanarkshire CampusAssistant Technician in Health - REF107Salary: Grade 3 £23,144 - £25,742 per annum Full Time: 35 hours per weekPermanent: Term Time OnlyTHE POST - Assistant Technician in HealthThe University of West of Scotland is recruiting for an Assistant Technician in Health to join the school of Health and Life Sciences. As an engaged and enthusiastic member of the Technical Team, the post holder will perform a range of operational taskswhich require skills and knowledge associated with Health and Nursing to support learning, teaching, research and enterprise activity within the School of Health and Life Science.As an Assistant Technician in Health your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting in the support of students and staff in clinical skills practical classes, ensuring an efficient, effective, and safe working environment.
  • Providing support in the preparation of materials and equipment for clinical skills simulated practice as directed by the Senior Technician and nursing protocols and schedule as timetabled.
  • Ensuring the maintenance of equipment is in good working order and fully functional for use.
  • Preparing of purchase order requisitions, and good receipt deliveries on arrival as well as stock taking, monitoring quantities and discard dates.
  • Assisting in the production of risk assessments for personal activities, also standard operating procedures for equipment within Health and Skills labs.
  • Ensure suitable disposal of any clinical waste and sharps used within Health on Lanarkshire Campus.
The successful candidate should have the following:
  • Education to HNC level in a relevant subject area or with equivalent experience in a similar role demonstrated through relevant and practical work experience in Healthcare or HEI
  • Experience of delivering clinical skills education in an FE or HE environment or Relevant experience in a hospital/community social care environment.
  • Demonstrable experience of managing a broad-ranging workload with challenging and competing deadlines and delivering to agreed timescales, evident in a similar role.
  • Capacity to manage own time effectively and deliver outputs consistent with the standards expected in terms of productivity and quality.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential to pass on and receive accurate information to both staff and students.
