Toolmaker, Birmingham, £33-35kMy client is a leading design and manufacturing company, supplying high quality products to customers world-wide.You will be part of a small team responsible for designing, manufacturing, developing and maintaining bespoke tooling to be used in prototyping & production as well as producing small batches of prototype and production components. They will be primarilyresponsible for supporting Engineering and Production in various stages of the product life cycle from initial design, through product development, prototyping and small batch production, and ensuring that all work is completed to a high standard to achievequick delivery of new product and minimum downtime in production.Duties and responsibilities: -Health, Safety and Environmental dutiesAll employees have the duty to ensure the health safety and welfare of themselves, others and the environment and comply with the Company HS&E policy.Role Duties: -Use a combination of techniques such as traditional machining and CNC machining to develop and manufacture tooling and components for prototyping new products and to support small batch manufacture.Where appropriate, use more advanced manufacturing techniques to support the above.Work closely with Engineering & Production to continually improve product designs and manufacturing methods and ensure design for manufacturability.Manufacture tooling and carry out repair/rectification work as required.Produce small batches of components for Specials and Low Volume products using the most cost-effective production methods available.Developing new and innovative tooling to aid manufacture.Ensuring product quality is maintained to a high standard.Provide advice and support to the toolroom team.Suggest ideas for Continuous Improvement and work with the team to increase efficiency and improve quality.Any other duties that may from time to time be reasonably expected.Skills & AttributesAbility to read and understand engineering drawings.Good knowledge of engineering materials.Excellent ability to machine components to exact tolerances using various equipment including, milling machines, lathes, surface and cylindrical grinders.It would be beneficial (but not essential) to have knowledge of some of the following techniques - 5 axis machining, CAM, 3D printing.Be innovative in terms of problem solving and adaption to changes.Ability to work as part of a small team but also to work independently and meet critical deadlines.Qualifications/ experienceEssential:Previous toolroom experience.NC machining/setting experience (both 3 axis VMCs and lathes)Apprenticeship trained/proven track record in engineering or toolmaking.Beneficial, but not essential:CNC, twin spindle and 5-axis experience.CAD/CAM experience.3D printing/additive manufacturing experience.Mazatrol and Heidenhain experience.Computer literate.Hours are (37 per week) Monday to Thursday 7.30am to 16.00pm, Fridays am to 12.30pm.
