Job Description

Digital with Purpose.Are you a Test Engineer in, or near BirminghamDo you want to be part of changing the face of public services, assuring products which will transform how millions of people interact with DWPWe are looking for outstanding test engineers in our new Birmingham city centre hub, to help deliver demanding and exciting digital services for the UK Government.As a test engineer you will help build and assure applications used by some of our 100,000 DWP staff and over 22 million claimants.You will be part of a multi-disciplinary agile team and be an integral part of designing and building automated test solutions that assure quality services which meet the needs of our agents and claimants.Our purpose is unique, and the scale of our engineering challenge is extraordinary:

  • We have 1bn lines of code in over 12000 code repos and 90+ programming languages. Thats more lines of codes than there are calories in 7.2m Strawberry Delights.
  • We run around 294 days worth of testing every day through automation.
  • Our APIs receive 173 million requests, and we spin up 280,000 AWS servers every month.
  • The products and services we maintain and modernise will be used by nearly every person in the UK, at key moments in their lives. Over 22 million people - 1/3 of the UKs adult population - access our services daily

Youll help us build service that work for us and the people that need them.You understand the right depth and breadth of testing, and can pick the right tool for the job, to make sure we build modern digital products and services that are robust, stable and accessible.Youll be responsible for testing all areas of the products, including but not limited to functional, business requirements, performance, security and accessibility.Youll also be part of a brilliant Test community, where you can build your skills and your career as well as discussing the latest technology trends, tools and best practices within Test Engineering.What skills, knowledge and experience will you needWell ask you to submit a CV, via our online portal, which demonstrates:
  • Experience of working in a complex, multi-disciplinary environment, delivering products within specific time-scales and engaging with multiple senior Stakeholders.
  • Experience of BDD (behaviour driven development) and TDD (test driven development) processes, and an understanding of the key principles to develop a modern standards approach to testing.
  • Experience in the development of automated test suites and tools including Java, Selenium v3.14.1+, Cucumber , Jenkins v2.11+, SOAP/REST Webservices/API testing.
  • Experience of Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery - Methodology and tools (i.e. GIT, Gitlab CI).
  • An understanding of the following test phases and standards associated to Performance Test, Accessibility Test, Security Test and Compatibility Test.
