Job Description

Signalling Design Manager - Top Tier Engineering Consultancy Location: Birmingham, West MidlandsSalary: DOE + Excellent flexible benefits (i.e. profit reward scheme, pension scheme x2, 25 days annual leave, flexible benefits fund)The Role:Signalling Design Manager required to lead the successful delivery of technically excellent multidisciplinary rail projects and bids across the UK portfolio. Join an enthusiastic team of Signalling Design Engineers and Systems Engineers working on UK rail projects across the country.You will be responsible for, and typical activities will include, but will not be restricted to:

  • Assist the Signalling discipline leader in the development and deployment at a local level of appropriate technical methodologies to support proposals and project delivery.
  • Develop in conjunction with the Signalling discipline leader and project leaders, project programmes and associated time and resource estimates and skills requirements.
  • Provide regular reports on the signalling design team(s) performance to the discipline and project leaders.
  • Provide technical guidance to produce detailed signalling design. Monitor and review progress, ensuring project timescales and targets are met.
  • Implement the design scope, ensuring that the design team(s) understands the project requirements.
  • Act as Responsible Contractors Engineer (CRE) for projects.
  • Determine the design methodology for projects and sign off outline and design specifications.
  • Coordinate the preparations of design reviews.
    • This role has day-to-day line management responsibility for all signalling design staff (permanent and contract) allocated to project(s) and work packages being produced under your control.Required Experience:
  • Experienced in leading a number of complex signalling design/multidisciplinary projects with an underpinning knowledge of signalling design and interlocking principles, standards, components, and fabrication methods.
  • Excellent hands-on experience of managing the production, checking and approval of feasibility, outline and detailed signalling principles design and calculations.
  • Knowledge of RRI, mechanical or SSI systems, ideally all three.
  • Knowledge of railway systems, and the key interactions between other railway assets, and with railway operating practices.
  • HNC/D or Higher qualification in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • IRSE licence 7.8.110 Engineering Manager (Design) and/or a previous holder of Signalling Principles Designer category 1.1.550 and Signalling design verifier 1.1.160.
  • A member of the IRSE and a Chartered Engineer.
