Job Description

About the roleHere at DS Smith Birmingham, we have an exciting opportunity for a Shift Manager with experience in manufacturing to join our team and play a vital role in the ongoing development of this packaging site! Were looking for leaders to drive the site forward,so communication and people management skills will be essential to your success.Reporting to the General Manager, you will work with a team of key personnel to ensure that productivity plans are met, ensure departmental targets are achieved, and actively pursue continuous improvements in the workplace. As a leader, you will be responsiblefor motivating colleagues to deliver on KPIs and deliver a first class service, continually providing opportunities to develop yourself, your team and the site.Other responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring a safe working environment is maintained at all times and team compliance with all company safety procedure and legislation
  • Reviewing and updating Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work
  • Analysing contractor Risk Assessment Method Statements, and reviewing contractor skills, competence, documentation and insurance
  • Collaborating with key stakeholders to promote continuous improvement and drive the overall success of the site
  • Working with maintenance teams to ensure all preventative maintenance schedules are effectively planned and actioned to monitor effectiveness and reduce downtime
  • Building strong relationships with key stakeholders on site and throughout the business
  • Driving performance, productivity, and cost saving initiatives
The working hours for this role rotate weekly and are as follows:Monday to Thursday: 06:00 - 14:00Friday: 06:00 - 13:00Monday to Thursday: 14:00 - 22:00Friday: 13:00 - 20:00About you
  • Previous experience of leading a team
  • Manufacturing/Engineering background would be advantageous
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills
  • The ability to set targets and manage performance to achieve these results
  • A sense of accountability, delivering what you say you will
  • A professional attitude based around development and improvement
  • Strong administration skills and IT literate
