Job Description

Location: The successful candidate will initially work from home due to COVID 19 restriction and will thereafter be based from our Birmingham office. There may also be the occasional need to work from other locations across the West Midlands to provide support with practical face-to-face administrative tasksHours per week: 35 hours per weekContract type: Fixed term until end of March 2022Salary: £17,703 per annumCan you use your admin skills to help us offer a high-quality service delivery to refugees and people seeking asylum across the West Midlands An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Support Assistant to join the dynamic Refugee Support team at our Birmingham office. As a Senior Support Assistant, you will be responsible for providing an administrative support function to the West Midlands Refugee Support team, who support refugees, asylum seekers, and vulnerable migrants in the West Midlands. What youll be doing will be dependent on the needs of the clients were supporting, so each day will be a little different. Key duties will include supporting our caseworkers, service managers and project coordinators with admin related tasks, such as managing records and data management, helping with purchasing and reporting, supporting the volunteers who work with us, and making sure the tools we use are up to date and fit for purpose. Youll also be one of the first points of contact for clients getting in touch with us for help and will signpost and refer these service users as appropriate.Reporting to the Service Manager, this is a key role that will allow our staff to deliver casework and projects safely and smoothly, and focus on responding to people in crisis. Behind every great cause theres a great team making everything possibleThe West Midlands Refugee Support service provides practical and emotional support to vulnerable refugees and asylum seekers in the region, most of whom are experiencing destitution. The team works together to deliver advice, advocacy, orientation and casework to vulnerable clients on issues including asylum support, access to immigration legal advice, health and wellbeing services, this is in addition to providing short term emergency provisions.Youll work closely alongside our team of casework coordinators and our fantastic Refugee Services volunteers to enable us to provide the best possible service.The role might be for you if ...You care about our cause - you have an understanding and empathy with the needs of refugees and asylum-seekers.Youre comfortable managing and prioritising a busy and varied workload, and have experience providing administrative support tooYoure a team player; youre able to work as part of a team within what can sometimes be a high-pressure environment.Youre diligent in record keeping and ensure a high level of accuracy and attention to detail when working with data.Youre a great communicator, and can communicate effectively with people whose first language isnt English, using interpreters where necessary.
