Senior Finance Officer (Management Accounts)

Job Description

Our client, based in Birmingham, is currently recruiting for a Senior Finance Officer (Management Accounts) to assist with the externally funded projects on a temporary contract for four - six months.The position is due to start immediately on a full time basis. The hourly rate is negotiable based on experience for this position.The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years’ experience in the sector, and have previous experience working with projects. The successful candidate must be a part-qualified accountant (working towards a professional accountancy qualification recognised by the CCAB).Duties will include (but not limited to):

  • Monitoring department activities and achievements against expenditure and income
  • Operating and maintaining systems to monitor budgets, income and expenditure and taking steps to reduce bureaucracy where possible
  • Reviewing and checking budget forecasts and ensuring financial forecasts are accurate and up to date
  • Preparing budget reports and monitoring expenditure against budgets and work with budget holders providing advice and guidance as necessary to ensure budgets are well managed
  • Investigating variances and reporting on problem areas
  • Alerting budget holders and senior management colleagues to changes in financial forecasts for projects or other delegated budget
  • Undertaking return on investment analysis and produce reports on cost effectiveness
  • Ensuring journals and recharges are processed correctly and maintaining local fixed asset registers
  • Reviewing procurement related reports, analysing and taking the appropriate action to resolve any issues identified
  • Liaising with external bodies and colleagues to raise invoices for income due on a timely basis
  • Preparing and submitting accurate and timely payroll data concerning hours and overtime
  • Experience required:
  • Minimum two years’ experience providing comprehensive accountancy and finance support services
  • Competent on Excel
  • Skills, knowledge and expertise required:
  • Detailed understanding of financial management procedures
  • Ability to influence and work confidently with senior management level
  • Able to work independently and as a team
  • Financial management and budgeting
  • Ability to organize and present information logically and accurately
  • Working hours:
  • Full time, 37 hours
  • Monday - Friday
