Aston University Students Union has a fantastic opportunity for an Accommodation Service Manager to oversee our not-for-profit student accommodation provision, The Green.Student Accommodation Service ManagerBirmingham, B4 7BX

Deadline for applications: 20th January 2023About UsAston Students Union (ASU) is a membership organisation for students studying at Aston University.The SU is led by elected student officers supported by a staff team. It is an independent charity and company that exists to impact positively on the life of Aston University students.The SU provides a range of services to enhance the student experience. Services are varied and include advice and support, a student representation framework, over 100 clubs and societies, an accommodation service, headline annual events alongside much more.About Our Student Accommodation Aston Students Union operates a small not-for-profit student accommodation village at Aston Brook Green known as The Green.The accommodation is made up of a collection of converted Victorian terrace houses surrounding a pleasant communal green area. It has between 150 and 160 residents and is made up of one bed apartments, 4 bed apartments and 3 bed houses.The properties are managed from an on-site accommodation office.About the Service Manager RoleYou will work to develop both the accommodation and a student-led resident community, ensuring the efficient management of the affordable student accommodation project known as The Green.You will play a crucial role in ensuring that student satisfaction remains as high as possible and developing a student resident-led community. Your key responsibilities will include:
  • Selecting tenants
  • communicating with tenants and relevant third parties effectively
  • Dealing with tenancy agreements and serving notices
  • Handling finance issues, eg negotiating with the landlord housing association
  • Managing repairs, maintenance and other Health & Safety matters
  • Managing security systems
  • Managing services eg internet and community laundrette
  • Leading the development of a business strategy
  • Communicating information throughout the SU
About YouYou will be expected to display a positive image of Aston Student Union, uphold and demonstrate the unions values.Essential characteristics:
  • A positive attitude to overcoming problems cooperatively
  • Good general education, typically to degree standard, including Maths and English at least to GCSE or equivalent
  • Strong IT skills
  • Clear and concise communicator
  • Effective time management
  • Work effectively as part of a team as well as independently
Desirable:
  • Experience of working in accommodation
  • Experience of maintenance and property management
  • Experience of managing budgets
  • An understanding of student led organisations
  • Demonstrable working knowledge of higher education and the issues affecting students today
  • Demonstrable experience of developing and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholder
You will be fully supported in the role and provided with the training and information required for you to become a successful, valued member of our team. However, previous experience in accommodation, managing budgets and data protection would be advantageous.Job Perks:
