Start ASAPDuration: 2 months Location: City Centre Hours: 37 hours per week Job PurposeThe Print Centre is responsible for providing students & staff with a professional onsite printing and binding service.The post holder is responsible for providing technical expertise within a customer facing production environment. This role involves all aspects of production including the pre-flight of customer files to ensure that they are print ready and production ofprint requirements. This position will also play a key role in terms of communication with our customers to ensure that outstanding customer service and adherence to all University guidelines are adhered to where possible.To undertake all tasks as delegated by the Print Manager and to develop and maintain an effective production service.Main activities and responsibilities1. Delivering excellent customer service to students / staff and external customers.2. Providing quotes for customers and estimating the time required to complete requirements.3. Ensure that all internal recharging is accurate and delivered on time.4. Operation of a range of digital printers including large format and the operation of various print finishing equipment, i.e. collator/booklet maker, glue binding machine, scoring machine, vinyl cutter, folding machine and guillotine finishing equipment.5. Operation Fiery Pre-Press RIP software or equivalent is desirable, but training will be provided.6. Ensure that work is produced according to the customers requirements and timescales, communicating any production issues in an effective and timely manner.7. Perform regular checks on print devices and software to ensure that high standards of quality and accuracy are maintained at all times.8. Liaise with customers when unclear of instructions, when there is a delay in service or when a specific service cannot be provided. Work with customer to resolve complaints to customers satisfaction.9. Maintain records and input statistical information into computer system as required.10. Maintain good communications with line manager and work colleagues at all times.11. Undertake routine maintenance and upkeep of equipment, reporting faults and defects with suppliers.12. Ensure effective rotation and replenishment of stock and maintain an adequate supply of equipment consumables.13. Maintain confidentiality and security of any documents processed.14. Ensure that equipment and work areas are maintained in a clean and tidy condition and that Health & Safety, COSHH and Fire regulations are adhered to.15. Ensure that work produced is in compliance with the Copyright Act and BCU standards.16. Follow risk assessment procedures and take appropriate steps to control hazards.Use personal protective equipment as appropriate.Person Specification Good level of general education Experience of working in a print shop environment Experience in a similar role is desirable Excellent computer literacy with particular practical knowledge and application of the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign) and the MS office Suite (excel/word/publisher/PowerPoint) and good keyboard skills Good general understanding of health and safety requirements relevant to the role Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact positively with a broad range of people at all levels
