Job Description

Your new roleAs a Principal Operational Technology Architect for Tunnels and Connected Vehicles you will shape and assure the enterprise perspective for the Operational Technology in this domain. You will be responsible for leading the technical design of OperationalTechnology systems, products and services at a tactical and strategic level, providing domain expertise and guidance to projects and stakeholder community.Travel to various locations in the South East of England will be required on an ad hoc basis.What youll be leading on

  • Provide technical design governance and advise on all domain related operational technology across Highways England, deployed into test environments and live onto the strategic road network.
  • Act as the authority for operational technology across Highways England providing subject matter expertise across the organisation ensuring dependencies, risks and opportunities are identified and managed.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and leadership to support, develop and maintain the delivery of the overall OT strategy.
  • Define, develop and communicate the architectural guardrails, specifications and evolutionary roadmaps for OT systems and products.
  • Act as a thought leader for the development and advancement of operational technology. Working with internal and external stakeholders, for example operators and suppliers, to explore and exploit new technologies to drive innovation within operational technology.
  • Engage with stakeholders across Highways England to support the production of proposals and business cases, working proactively to secure the necessary support and approval from key stakeholders for example Highways England Board and Executive, CommercialCommittees and Government Departments
To be successful
  • Must have demonstrable experience in translating technical concepts between different parties (e.g. Software Engineering, Delivery Management).
  • A deep understanding of particular technologies in use by National Highways (e.g. SCADA/PLC, TCMS, CCTV, ATMS).
  • Preferable practical experience of roadside environment specifications / standards and their interactions with relevant legislative documents.
  • Strong relationship skills with a particular focus on the ability to positively influence senior stakeholders.
  • Outcome focussed, with the ability to arbitrate where necessary to achieve a successful result.
  • Able to demonstrate previous experience of participation in technical governance processes (either in a delivery or assurance role).
