Job Description

PR & Communications ExecutiveBirmingham (Remote based with some travel into office on occasions)Hours: Full Time, 35 hours per week. £28,000 base per annum plus benefitsMy client are a UK leading specialist organisation focussed towards retail. My client provide smaller independent businesses a fair voice against the larger retailers. They assist and support by influencing the media, pricing support on business rates andstaffing as well as fighting and changing Government legislation. My client supports thousands of businesses across the UK, from small chains to single retailers to larger department stores and dealershipsDue to on-going growth, they now require a PR & Communications Executive to join the team. The ideal candidate would be somebody with some background in journalism, thats capable of running communications on Social Media, Writing Newsletters etc.Job Purpose:To organise and oversee PR activities and ensure effective communication with company and industry stakeholders, media and various b2b audiences.As a PR & Communications Executive, you should be an organized and cool-tempered professional who is able build and manage the companies PR & communications plan. You will have a creative mind and excellent communication skills. Your goal will be to maximise the organisations media exposure and positively promote the vitally important independent retail sector.Core Responsibilities:

  • Implement all internal and external communications for ensuring its messages are consistent, relevant, and engaging. This includes editing the news pages on the company website
  • Support the CEO with all areas of policy, pr and communications
  • Support the wider membership and marketing teams and attend regular internal and external meetings
  • Act as first point of contact for media enquiries, ensuring they all receive a timely and appropriate response and referred to the CEO and Director of Membership & Marketing
  • Write and distribute high-quality press releases for local and national print & digital media
  • Produce regular internal communications to keep company employees up to date and engaged with the company and industry news and developments
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key media to secure and increase media coverage online in print, on radio and television
  • Develop relationships with key members and build a bank of media-ready member stories/case studies
  • Instigate partnerships with media outlets to broaden the brand
  • Develop use of other media/communication tools such as video to promote messages to members and improve engagement
  • Monitor press stories relating to the company, its brand and the industry, and maximise opportunities for positive PR while managing negative PR
  • Provide columns for trade magazines as required, increasing awareness of the brand and its campaign activities and successes
  • Prepare detailed media activity reports
  • Develop and oversee all relevant member communications, e-newsletters and mailshots ensuring quality and consistency
  • Ensure all relevant PR and Comms output is shared on social media channels where appropriate.
  • Support internal policy committee (LPAC) with campaign and advocacy work, including creating template letters for engaging with government and local authorities and keeping the relevant web pages up to date
  • Support responses to government and local authority consultations where appropriate
  • Design and publish documents such as the annual report

  • Monitor, analyse and communicate PR results on a quarterly basis
Skills Required:The successful candidate will have the following:
  • Educated to Degree level in PR & Communications, Journalism or similar
  • 2 + years working in a PR & Communications role
  • Copywriting and communication skills with the ability to inspire and enthuse others. Youll need to be able to vary the tone and use of language for different audiences.
  • Experience in designing and executing PR campaigns at both local & national level.
  • Experience in writing press releases & other copy.
  • Ability to develop strong relationships with local and national businesses, and industry media outlets
  • Accuracy and an eye for detail
  • Strong organisational skills with an ability to multi-task, lead on certain areas and meet deadlines
  • Good working knowledge Microsoft Office including Word & Outlook
  • Excellent project and time management skills; deadline driven.
