Job Description

2680 - PlannerYour new roleNational Highways have an excellent new opportunity for a Planner to join our Major Projects Directorate in the SMP PMO division. This role is based at the Birmingham Office though can be flexible to allow for working from home as circumstances dictate.This planning role is within the Smart Motorways Programme PMO to support individual schemes and the programme overall in all areas of schedule management and project controls. The position is to improve scheme forecasting, aid the reporting of progress,improve measurement technics and support the development of the planning department. The candidate will be able to communicate with project teams and senior management alike, both for Highways England and the Delivery Partners, to provide valuable informationabout the programmes success. The role will involve travel to projects but will be mostly based in the SMP Birmingham office. Reporting to the Head of Planning the candidate will be self-motivated and will be able to support several different initiativesat the same time.What youll be leading on

  1. Provide Primavera P6 support to the programme PMO and support the wider team in planning and project control techniques, both contractually and practically using NEC guidance.
  2. Communicate with the broader planning community, internally and externally, to ensure the monthly report cycle is completed in a timely fashion and provide advice where issues arise.
  3. Develop the current measurement and progressing techniques to improve the flow of data and advance the quality of data to allow greater accuracy of forecasting.
  4. Monitor change within the schemes and programme and highlight those elements that contribute to any negative aspects of the programmes performance.
  5. Assist in programme-wide schedule quality improvements, assist in improving reporting quality throughout the programme and assist and driving quality and all-around quality performance.
To be successful youll need
  • Have experience in schedule management, ideally using Primavera P6 software, and project controls techniques within a multi-schedule programme and understands the importance of quality data.
  • Have experience in contract administration, preferably the NEC suite of contracts or bespoke agreements, and exposure to using this in a live project environment.
  • Have experience in project controls and reporting progress and performance data and being able to highlight where issues, or potential issues, may lie.
  • Has good communication skills and understands the importance of the messages being delivered, both in a verbal and written/illustrated format.
  • Has experience in assessing and reviewing data and is able to present it in a manner that can be used across the business to accurately demonstrate the outcome.
