Job Description

My client based in Birmingham is a national professional services firm with an opportunity for a payroll advisor to join their team. The role will work closely with the firms HR operations team, and reporting to a Senior HR Manager, this busy and challenging role is responsible for managing all aspects of the firms payroll function through the firms HR and payroll software, CoreHR. This involves the delivery of the end-to-end payroll process for 1000 monthly paid employees and all associated administration and liaison with the Finance team. This role can be remotely based.This busy and varied role will allow the successful candidate to have full accountability for the payroll function and will operate as the payroll specialist for the firm. The role will have full accountability for the processing and administering all aspects of payroll and benefits, with transparent processes and effective audit trails. You will:

  • Checking of monthly payroll for sign off, salary BACS submissions, and all third-party payments ensuring all transactions are auditable.
  • Validating the integrity of the payroll system and its data. Working with Excel so knowledge of formulae, V lookups, etc is key.
  • Responsible for finalising the tax year-end in accordance with all timetables and deadlines.
  • Interpreting and applying all internal policies and Government Legislation to ensure payroll transactions are made in accordance with them.
  • Ensure that all statutory information (such as RTI) is recorded accurately and submitted on time.
  • Reconciliation of all aspects of payroll and benefits and to provide assistance to the Management Account and external Auditors with payroll related audit checks.
  • Advising and offering guidance to employees and managers with payroll queries and dealing with manual pay adjustments as and when required and investigating any queries.
  • Responsible for the operation of auto-enrolment and viewing, processing, and reconciling monthly flexible benefits through payroll.
  • Produce and analyse the firms gender pay gap, partner pay gap and ethnicity pay gap by legislative guidance.Applicants will have payroll experience managing a similar size payroll with supporting qualifications. You will be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of UK payroll, Pensions, Auto-enrolment and Gender Pay Gap reporting. Also, you will have excellent analytical skills to identify trends and take appropriate remedial action, identifying the root of a problem and delivering sustainable solutions.
