Job Description

We are currently looking for a HVAC and Refrigeration Engineer to join our busy team in Birmingham!In this role you will be responsible for the service, maintenance, repair and replacement of refrigeration, heating, ventilation and air conditioning plant, plus additional building services installations and electrical maintenance, across the customer sites,whilst establishing and maintaining positive relationships with customers, suppliers, service providers and contractors.HVAC and Refrigeration Engineer Duties:

  • Carry out a reactive and planned preventive maintenance service to all plant and equipment across the Clients sites, focusing on, refrigeration, heating, ventilation, air conditioning plant, associated services and electrical equipment in accordance withcustomer work requests, inspection findings, schedules and Service Level Agreements.
  • The plant, equipment and services within the Engineers remit includes, but is not limited to, the following:
    • Air Handling Units
    • Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) equipment
    • Packaged liquid chillers
    • Refrigeration plant, centrifugal and reciprocating compressors
    • Cooling Towers
    • Pumps
    • Heating plant
    • Electrical distribution and control equipment
    • Respond to breakdown and emergency situations, diagnose and rectify faults and carry out effective hands on maintenance and repairs.
    • Provide 24 hour cover through call out, be available for call outs and attend as necessary when called out.
    • Carry out fault root-cause analysis and problem solving techniques to maximize the efficiency and safety of the site, plant and equipment.
    • Carry out criticality analysis of the site services plant and equipment to identify the highest equipment risk areas for focus and review that analysis on a regular basis.
    • Advise on plant and equipment improvements which contribute toward site improvements, health and safety and/or technical corrective actions.
    • Carry out activity and task based Risk Assessments, produce Method Statements and implement Safe Systems of Work ensuring compliance with all relevant Health, Safety & Environmental regulations and codes of practice.
    • Undertake all tasks in a professional manner, demonstrating technical knowledge and experience.
    • Support projects and maintenance activities, assist in planning and work with Contractors to support successful delivery of their works.
    • When required effectively coordinate and lead mechanical and electrical maintenance activities on the plant and equipment, in a manner that upholds the quality of the operation, focusing on safety, productivity, cost-effectiveness and the preservation andimprovement of the site machinery and property.
    • Have a working knowledge of BMS systems and be able to interface with the system to perform changes.
    • Respond to and raise work requests and input service data into the Computerised Maintenance Management System.
    • Carry out F-Gas compliance checks and keep F-Gas compliance records up to date.
    • Provide cover for colleagues during periods of absence i.e. holidays, sickness, paternity leave, etc.
    • Support, train and guide apprentices in mechanical & electrical building services maintenance and good practice.
HVAC and Refrigeration Engineer Requirements:
  • Demonstrate strong problem solving and decision making skills, with a precise and accurate approach to work, able to prioritise work load and meet deadlines.
  • Be aware of and understand the adi Group and adi Facilities Engineering Ltd policies, adi Staff and Corporate Social Responsibility guides, Management Philosophy and live the Company Values.
  • Identify and communicate any problems/barriers affecting realisation of potential business or opportunities for improvements to your manager, with suggestions for resolution where possible. Do not wait to be managed.
  • Take responsibility for your own Personal Development Plan (PDP) and assist in documenting good practice.
  • Carry out any reasonable tasks in accordance with your position, aiming to add value.
  • Acquire and maintain knowledge of adi Group businesses, products, services and market sectors.
  • Keep knowledge up to date on industry working practices, Health, Safety and Environmental procedures and legislation, competitor activity and market conditions, pertinent to your specialism.
  • Comply with company procedures on document and data handling.
  • Operate with high integrity at all times.
The HVAC Refrigeration and Electrical Services Engineer should possess the following qualifications:
  • City and Guilds 2079 F Gas Class 1 & 2 certification
  • CITB Safe Handling of Refrigerants J11-12
  • Apprenticeship served in an industrial engineering or maintenance environment.
  • Industrial Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Mechanical Fitting or Engineering BTEC - ONC / HNC or equivalent (preferable however experience will be considered).
  • Electrical Installation: City & Guilds 2394 & 2395, 2330/2351/2355 or 236 Parts A&B or 2360 Parts 1&2 or 2365 Level 2&3 or 2356 NVQ 3 within a recognised Apprenticeship.
  • City & Guilds 6187 categories 1-6 (Unit 230/530) and 7189 categories 2-3 (Unit 209/509).
  • Certificate for the Requirements for Electrical Installations BS 7671: 200
