Job Description

HSE ManagerPermanent PositionsExcellent Salary Available (Holiday: 25 days + 8 Statutory Days, Pension up to 8% matched, Life Assurance: 5x Basic Salary)Growing Manufacturing BusinessOnsite in BirminghamMy client are a precision manufacturing business, based in Birmingham, specialising in machining and assembly of high value low volume components.Working as part of the Senior Management Team, the HSE Manager will be responsible forensuring the efficient and effective management, development and running of all aspects of health, safety and environmental compliance in conjunction with Lean principles.The HSE Manager will drive and develop the HSE strategy through innovation and best practise, acting as the main point of contact on all health, safety, and environmental matters both internally and externally.HSE ManagerJob Description

  • Prepare and implement appropriate KPI’s to drive company and departmental HSE performance.
  • Responsible for all HSE resource planning and development of the HSE team structure.
  • Providing leadership, direction, and guidance to the HSE team; developing, setting goals and monitoring the progress and performance of the team including organisation of relevant training and performance management.
  • Ensure the availability and adequate competent material resource and safety equipment across the business unit required for the effective operation of the HSE department and HSE and environmental regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and implement the HSE Policy, standard operating procedures (SOP), risk assessments and work element sheets (WES), toolbox talks etc. for all associated operations and HSE campaigns in line with the Group SOP’s and strategy and business needs. Ensuringall are updated regularly ensuring regulatory compliance in conjunction with being ‘fit for purpose’ operationally and commercially.
  • Drive and report site ESG (environmental) kaisers and share and implement best practice.
  • Ensuring implementation and site adherence to health and safety procedures and business unit related SOP’s, risk assessments and Group SOP’s and HSE campaigns.
  • Main contact and lead for the HSE Committee and First Aider committees on site.
  • Take part in accident / incident investigations – and coach leadership team to RCA.
  • Carries out analysis of accident/incident statistics, identifying trends and suggesting improvement plans.
  • Develop and implement Health, Safety and Environmental strategies and action plans that ensure corporate sustainable development.
  • Carry out and lead on internal and external customer and regulatory risk assessments, audits & inspections, as required including for sub-contractors and events.
  • Ensure that there is an audit programme in place which is communicated throughout the business at the relevant timescales in line with Group, customer, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain an awareness of new and proposed legislation that impacts the business and communicating and changes to the Management and Leadership Teams.
  • Ensures, in accordance with the business unit and Group guidelines, the implementation, updating, review and auditing of the Company HSE Systems and in line with regulation and company directives.
  • Supporting the HR department with the HSE induction during the onboarding process and throughout the employee lifecycle.
  • Problem solving and review and implementation of continuous improvement activities within the HSE department and across the business unit.
  • Promoting and raising awareness, at all levels of the organisation, of the impact of emerging Health, Safety and Environmental issues, whether legislative or best practice, on corporate, ethical, and social responsibility.
  • Carrying out impact and compliance assessments to identify, assess and reduce the organisations environmental, health & safety risks and financial costs.
  • Measuring and evaluating the effectiveness of the environmental and health & safety hazard control system, policies, and procedures and recommending changes that reflect improved opportunities to eliminate workplace accidents and injuries and environmentalincidents.
  • Environmental Compliance management and ownership of all external regulatory requirements for the Environmental Management System. Management and ownership of ISO 9001. Responsible for the system management plan and integration across the business; responsiblefor raising business strategic awareness through monthly management reviews.
  • Perform Gemba walks, coaching leadership in learning to see hazards and provide HSE technical guidance.
  • Carrying out any other duties appropriate to this post, as necessary or as requested.
HSE ManagerEssential Qualifications / Experience / Skills
  • Proven record of success in HSE with strong understanding and exposure to operations, engineering, distribution, and supply chain.
  • Degree or equivalent qualifications
  • Strong engineering/manufacturing background.
  • Relevant HSE professional qualifications (IOSH or NEBOSH, minimum Diploma).
  • Experience and working knowledge of HSE management systems, environmental, fire and hygiene processes, incident reporting and investigation procedures, auditing and safety systems and processes.

  • Experience of the ISO accreditation is desirable
