Job Description

Your new roleNational Highways are looking to appoint a new Health and Safety Audit Manager to provide a responsive and helpful service to audit clients through a sound and professional evaluation of risk management, internal control and governance arrangements. Thisservice will be delivered through the development of the annual health and safety approach that will form part of the CAD annual assurance programme. This will include the requirement to plan, supervise and ensure the delivery of health and safety assuranceacross the organisation.What youll be leading on

  • Member of the Corporate Assurance leadership team with accountability for end-to end-delivery of the health and safety assurance programme.
  • Develop, manage, and continuously improve the health, safety and wellbeing assurance approach to drive the creation and delivery of the health, safety and wellbeing element of the Corporate Assurance programme.
  • Preparation of progress updates to the Director of Corporate Assurance and other senior interested parties.
  • Act as an independent advisor (where required), helping Highways England achieve its vision and objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to providing assurance, advice and insight on the effectiveness of risk management, governance, complianceand internal control with regards to health and safety.
  • Overview audit and control testing documents developed by Senior Auditors, ensuring quality standards across the organisation.
To be successful
  • Degree/Post Graduate Diploma or Diploma in Health and Safety or equivalent
  • Chartered Membership of the Institute of Safety and Health (CMIOSH)
  • Significant knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, particularly the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 and the Construction Design and Management Regulations 2015
  • Excellent planning, organisational and project management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to build strong working relationships and maintain rapport, with stakeholders and staff at all levels, from diverse backgrounds, and with different technical understanding.
  • Ability to lead the delivery of concurrent audits from designing an approach, planning and scoping, through proactive discussions with the business, to report issue and file closure.
