Job Description

GRG are partnering with an investment promotion agency who are seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to join their organisation as the Head of Policy. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping and implementing policies that contributeto the sustainable development and economic growth of the region. This is a unique opportunity to lead on critical initiatives and influence decision-making processes at both local and governmental levels.Key Responsibilities:

  • International Strategy: Lead the completion of the international strategy, ensuring alignment with regional goals and future-facing initiatives.
  • Regional Representation: Act as the lead representative for the region.
  • Business Plan Review: Lead the review of the organisations business plan, ensuring alignment with local authority priorities and securing sustainable funding over various streams until March 2025.
  • Enterprise Zones and Devolution: Drive initiatives related to enterprise zones, single settlement, and forward-looking devolution plans in collaboration with government stakeholders.
  • Economic Strategy: Play a key role in the West Midlands 2035 economic strategy, contributing to place-based strategies that reflect the unique needs of the local community.
  • Public Relations: Manage communication strategies during two key elections (mayoral and government), leveraging opportunities to influence and lead changes in how we operate and prioritise.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Strong background in economic development, policy, and strategy.
  • Previous experience in partnering with local authorities, regional partners or LEPs is essential, with a deep understanding of the regional ecosystem.
  • Strong analytical skills to navigate complex working environments and contribute to evidence-based decision-making.
  • Excellent written and presentation skills for effective communication with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, demonstrating self-motivation and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Experience in complex working environments, showcasing the ability to juggle priorities and navigate challenges to achieve desired outcomes.
