Your new roleAs part of Roads Development Division in Safety, Engineering and Standards, the Intelligent Transport Systems Group provides technical leadership to maintain, modernise and develop design, construction and maintenance standards for roadside operational technologyand services for the strategic road network. This will mean we can respond to those elements shaping our strategic roads: climate change, technological innovation, demographic shifts and the changing behaviours of our customers.You will lead the Intelligent Transport Systems group, working at a national level - leading the development of standards, provision of technical advice and guidance to support the roadside operational technology asset management lifecycle, enabling futuremobility across the strategic road network, connecting the country. This will also include change activities including the development of algorithms and services to enable improved traffic management and mobility. All of this achieved through extensive collaborationand influence across stakeholders including the supply chain, wider industry, international partners, academia, and government. You will also focus on the Company aim that no one should be harmed when travelling or working on the strategic road network.What youll be leading onThe development and implementation of standards, provision of specialist advice and guidanceDeveloping and maintaining strong collaborative working relationships with senior stakeholders across National Highways and externallyDeveloping and maintaining a strong external network and participating in industry and academic forumsLeading, motivating and developing a large and geographically dispersed group of specialists, programme management and business support rolesManaging and reporting on the performance of the GroupAs a member of the Divisional senior leadership team, contributing to the development of Divisional strategy and business plansTo be successful you will haveProven experience of leading the development of solutions and provision of specialist advice in intelligent transport systems, particularly roadside operational technology systems and associated services.Strong collaboration skills, to gain the involvement and engagement of a wide range of senior stakeholders.Proven experience of the successful delivery of complex projects or change programmes, including the establishment of project governance in line with APMP principlesExcellent communication skills, to explain, clarify and ensure understanding of complex technical mattersProven experience of managing and developing teams, including budget and resource managementMembership of a relevant professional institution (eg The Institution of Engineering and Technology) and preferably be a Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartered EngineerA bit about usSafety, Engineering and Standards (SES) is an exciting place to work.
