Job Description

Your New Role:We have a fantastic opportunity for a Assistant Estimator to join our Transport Infrastructure - Rail Commercial team in Birmingham or London. Hybrid working role.Our Transport Infrastructure business supports National Highways, Local Authority Highways, Highways Scotland and Rail customers. We transform journeys and help communities thrive by making roads safer, railways smoother and our streets and green spacescleaner. Working through locally based teams, we support communities by helping to create better, safer and more pleasant places through the provision of integrated highway design, well-designed streets, well-maintained grounds, modern public lighting andefficient winter maintenance solutions. And with 4.8 million journeys a day on UK railways, we are also hard at workday and night maintaining the railways with the latest signalling systems, upgraded track and overhead lines and regular asset inspections.Ultimately, investing to create well-functioning, safe spaces which minimise disruption, keep people moving and support thriving communities.Assistant Estimator plays an important part in preparation of detailed analytical estimates using first principles techniques in the Rail industry.The standard hours of work arefull time - 37.5 hours per week. (we may consider working compressed working hours over 4 days a week.)You will be responsible for:

  • Assisting the estimating lead in the preparation of detailed and robust estimates from first principles
  • Maintaining clear and concise estimating files to ensure audit trails are maintained and all estimating documentation is readily available should it be needed.
  • Maintain a record of all Candy Estimating job files and Masters, ensuring they are available as and when needed.
  • Maintenance and input into the benchmarking library of cost and output data to inform future opportunities.
  • Liaison with other estimating, operational and commercial staff to delivery high quality, robust pricing submissions
  • Providing input and support into the evaluation and pricing of risk and opportunity on tenders.
  • Providing support and input into a comprehensive and robust handover to post-contract delivery teams for all secured tenders.
  • Maintaining a record of Continuous Professional Development to aid in future membership of a professional institution
We want to hear from you if you have:
  • HNC or Degree Qualified in relatable discipline or working towards such qualification
SkillsA basic appreciation of the built environment, general construction techniques and methodologies for the chosen business unit activities
  • An appreciation of the differing standard forms of Contract normally utilised within the field of practice
  • A basic understanding in the use of proprietary estimating software (such as CCS Candy) however training will be provided if required.
