Job Description

Our clienthas an exciting opportunity for anEnvironment and Energy Managerto join their team based inBirmingham. They are looking for a forward-thinking productive individual who will be able to deliver environment andenergy strategies to multiple sites and buildings across the network, ensuring arrangements are in place to meet the requirements of both Group and local environmental management requirements.You will be working closely with the Health, Safety, Security & Environment Director (HSSE) to establish action plans to meet the Companys environmental objectives and targets, co-ordinating environmental management activities within the company and asrequired by their National Rail Contract agreementKey elements of the role will involve:

  • Ensuring all internal environmental audits are carried out and that a mechanism for closing out outstanding actions is in place, and that environmental incidents are formally reported to the company HSSE Director and that appropriate actions are implementedto prevent reoccurrence of such incidents
  • Collating environmental performance data, reviewing and reporting to the HSSE Director
  • Ensuring arrangements are in place to meet the requirements of both Group and local environmental management requirements
  • Working with the Health, Safety, Security & Environment Director (HSSE) to establish action plans to meet the Companys environmental objectives and targets
  • Co-ordinating environmental management activities within the company, including identifying opportunities to reduce carbon emissions and assist in cost savings within the property portfolios
  • Ensuring that all energy related compliance is met, informing relevant staff of their environmental responsibilities
  • Maintaining ISO 14001; ISO 50001 and ISO 14064 and any other relevant standards
  • Demonstrating a strong ability to analyse complex quantitative and qualitative Environment and Sustainability data, draw robust conclusions and report these accurately and meaningfully
  • Carrying out all reasonable tasks as instructed by the HSSE Director
  • Engaging with team members in West Midlands Trains and the Safety and Environment team to develop data and reporting solutions
  • Supporting the development of on train systems and tools to promote operational safety management in conjunction with Operational Colleagues
Candidate requirements include:
  • Degree qualified or further education background in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline
  • EMS Internal auditor to ISO14001 and 50001
  • Relevant professional membership (or working towards) e.g., CIBSE, Energy Institute.
  • Member of IEMA or other equivalent environmental professional body (or working towards)
  • Demonstrable experience implementing a program of energy savings across multiple buildings and locations
  • Excellent Excel skills and other analytical software with a rigorous approach and attention to detail in both quantitative and qualitative research and analysis
  • Excellent software development and information system skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills and experience developing holistic solutions in a business context
  • Ability to project manage tasks from inception to completion
  • Excellent team-working, and the ability to contribute towards a positive team dynamic
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and client management skills
  • The ability to work under pressure to client determined deadlines
  • Knowledge and understanding of emerging Environment and Sustainability issues
  • Analytical, reporting and communication skills
  • Knowledge of the business environment in which West Midlands Trains operates
