Job Description

Weightmans team is second-to-none in providing defendant litigation services in these specialist areas. We operate on a national basis with dedicated workplace, public and police teamsTherole

  • Work within the dedicated utilities team
  • Handle a varied caseload for a large national utility company and assist the partners and other fee earners on larger and more complex cases. In particular, this will involve handling and assisting on both litigated and pre-lit injury claims, propertydamage claims, contribution claims and recoveries.
  • Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the Water Industry Act and the New Roads and Streetworks Act and apply those to claims as part of the work
  • Assist with and prepare/present training to meet client needs
  • Support the partners with the client account and attend relevant meetings
  • Assist others with their caseloads of other types of commercial or injury litigation work
  • Achieve set hours and billing targets
  • Meet deadlines, and comply with procedural requirements from clients and the firm
  • Comply with relevant policies and procedures
  • Work in accordance with Weightmans values
The person specification
  • Previous experience of dealing with claims in negligence and breach of statutory duty either for or against a utility company/statutory undertaker is preferable but not essential
  • Previous experience of flood damage and business interruption claims would also be an advantage, although training will be provided
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and concentration
  • Excellent collaborative and team working skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Ability to work to deadlines and targets
  • Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative
