Job Description

Your new roleAre you an experienced risk professional in corporate or enterprise risk management practices Reporting to the Head of Corporate Risk, your role will be to provide support and guidance to the business on the companys Risk Management Framework, includingproviding assurance over the effectiveness of the control environment in place to mitigate identified risks.As part of the Corporate Assurance Division, you will support the Head of Corporate Risk and the Director of Corporate Assurances regular reporting to the National Highways Executive Committee, the Audit and Risk Committee and the Board.Therefore, we need someone to actively manage and maintain appropriate processes, systems, and tools to support our enterprise-wide risk management approach.So, can you:

  • Provide a responsive and helpful service to internal and external stakeholders through the provision, oversight, and maintenance of the companys Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Framework
  • Ensure consistency in the way that risk (including opportunities) and issues are identified, managed, and reported across National Highways
If you are, you will be asked to assist the Head of Corporate Risk in driving best practice and providing leadership within the companys risk profession to mature ERM capability across the organisation. This will require effective liaison with managementand influencing of, key stakeholders, including the Board, the Executive and key functions across the business.Your success as the Corporate Assurance Risk Manager will be measured by your ability to manage your direct team (and those distributed risk resources across the organisation) to be risk-aware and confident that they can manage risk effectively, whilst successfullyanalysing and reporting results to senior management and key stakeholders.What you will be leading on
  • Working in partnership with the Assurance Framework Manager, you will oversee the companys Management Assurance process, including regular reporting to the Executive Committee, Audit and Risk Committee, and Department for Transport
  • Helping to maintain all relevant policy and procedural documentation and supporting systems. This includes assisting in developing and deploying standardised, appropriate and effective processes and procedures, tools and guidance that align to corporatepolicy and business need.
  • Assist the Head of Corporate Risk and the Director of Corporate Assurance, by acting as a risk-aware "conscience" for National Highways. This includes facilitating directorate and divisional awareness and involvement in risk management, maintaining theCorporate Risk Register - the companys principal risk register - and assuring that the process enables key risks to flow up through the organisation aligning with the Boards Risk Appetite Framework.
  • Ensuring that there are coherent and consistent risk reporting processes in place for risk and issue management which provides early warning on risks and supports effective mitigation at all levels. This will include the delivery of control and additionalmitigating activity as well as appropriate analysis of the risk landscape overall.
  • Advising on the development of strong control frameworks with risk owners. This will include the formation of appropriate additional mitigation plans, working with cost and financial managers to articulate appropriate financial provisions (contingencies)for identified risks and monitoring their implementation as part of the risk reporting and analysis function.
  • Helping shape and lead the corporate risk team and division in delivering high-quality, value-adding support, guidance, reporting and analysis to the business. You will also orchestrate a suitable risk management resource network (with champions, dedicatedrisk managers or focal points) to operate the ERM Framework effectively throughout the organisation.
To be successful
  • Audit, risk management (CMIIA / IRM/ MoR Practitioner) or other equivalent relevant professional qualifications.
  • The ability to prioritise your own workload to plan, organise and complete projects within a defined timescale. This will also include the need to deal with confidential and sensitive issues with tact.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and the ability to demonstrate credibility in dealings with stakeholders at all levels. Negotiating and persuading skills will be required
  • Good attention to detail with excellent analytical skills and ability to interpret data quickly and present it back to the business in a clear, concise, and considered manner.
  • To be a good people-leader as well as a flexible, self-motivated team manager - outgoing and resourceful and comfortable operating in all aspects of the ERM space.
  • Experience of working with Xactium or other RM database applications is desirable.
