Job Description

Salary: £28,178 per annumHours: 37.5 hours per week (2 year fixed term)Location: Birmingham - B12 9QHContract: Full time, Fixed TermMAC is recruiting a Community Engagement Producer to develop and coordinate its engagement artistic programme by, with and for diverse local communities, and to support MAC’s ongoing work to widen and deepen engagement by diverse audiencesProducing MAC’s community engagement programme

  • Work with community members, including seniors, women with lived experience of mental health and hyperlocal communities, to produce and continue to develop an inclusive and accessible programme of arts activities supporting wellbeing, self-expression andcommunity
  • Coordinate a weekly creative wellbeing group for women with lived experience of mental health; Culture Club, MAC’s monthly art club for over-65s and a new project working with local community groups to support the redesign and maintenance of MAC’s outdoorterrace garden
  • Support the continued development of diverse audiences at MAC - specifically, working with and developing the MAC Neighbours group of community ambassadors to encourage engagement in MAC by hyperlocal communities currently underrepresented in MAC’s audiences
  • Lead on production of public-facing community events, e.g. Refugee Week events and MAC’s Big Green Weekender
  • Manage budget including budgetary planning, monitoring spending, keeping financial records and managing petty cash
  • Manage event logistics including bookings and catering, booking artists and facilitators and drafting contracts
Strategic development and relationship-building
  • Contribute to the strategic development of MAC‘s policies and practices, ensuring MAC remains relevant, progressive and innovative in its approach and in meeting the needs which reflect the diversity of the city and region it seeks to represent
  • Help maximise resources to support MAC’s community programmes, including by identifying new partnerships and organisations to realise its work and contributing to funding applications
  • Nurture and build new relationships and partnerships with relevant stakeholders including community, public sector and arts organisations, and artists
  • Support the local community arts ecosystem through building relationships, sharing learning and, in partnership with No11 Arts, hosting two annual networking events for community arts in Birmingham
Communications
  • Communicate effectively with diverse community members including through email, phone and text message
  • Work with the communications team to publicise and promote MAC’s community engagement programme, including to relevant community groups and wider public
Evaluation
  • Document and evaluate MAC’s community engagement work, including gathering feedback and ideas from participants on an ongoing basis, to inform the programme
Line management and mentoring
  • Line manage and support the learning and professional growth of MAC’s community engagement apprentice
  • Oversee artists, associates, volunteers and work placements/interns working in community programmes

Person specification
  • Significant experience (ideally three years) of outreach in an arts, education, a community setting or support service, or through significant freelance work
  • Proven track record in devising, co-ordinating and evaluating imaginative programmes and activities for a wide range of communities
  • Ability to support, nurture and facilitate creativity, co-creation and leadership, particularly by people who are traditionally excluded by mainstream arts and cultural provision
  • A proven track record and enthusiasm for working collaboratively with a range of partners, including those from non-arts backgrounds
  • Understanding of and proactive approach to inclusion and access including neurodiversity, mental health, age, ethnicity and class
  • Ability to manage and prioritise a range of complex projects and competing demands
  • IT Literate with working knowledge of MS Office Suite
  • Experience of developing, monitoring and managing project and programme budgets
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to identify, develop and draft funding proposals and ideas
  • A self-starter who can motivate others, is not afraid to ask questions and can hold a keen eye for opportunity
  • An adaptable team player, who is able to plan, negotiate and make decisions with high standards of personal organisation
  • Willing to travel within and beyond the region as required and to work occasional unsociable hours
  • Have a commitment to continuing professional development and improving their professional practice
