Job Description

Calibration Technician Location: West MidlandsSalary: CompetitiveThe company are looking to recruit Calibration Technicians based in the West Midlands area.Duties and ResponsibilitiesShort Term

  • Preparation and packing up of all equipment identified for courier despatch using the method and materials outlined in the packaging procedures and guidelines.
  • Contacting the relevant courier; making arrangements for daily collections and completing all the necessary paperwork, despatch notes and log
  • Alternatively contacting all non-courier clients to arrange for a direct pick up of their calibrated items, ensuring to log all calls and client contact and to write up despatch notes and complete the log/ tracking forms
  • Unpacking and booking in of items received, following the correct computer based booking in procedure, and completing all the necessary paperwork (taking photos of all component parts and accessories)
  • Identification in the laboratory of each days urgent work schedule and priority client requirements, or 24hour turnaround notifications etc.
  • Observation of the senior calibration staff carrying out calibration of various pieces of equipment and learning to assist them and get involved gradually in the initial stages of calibration.
  • Studying the procedures for each type of instrument calibration and familiarisation with the relevant british standards
  • Development of detailed knowledge and awareness of ukas requirements and british standards
  • Learning how to calibrate basic instruments such as force gauges and torque wrenches to begin with maintaining the tidiness of the laboratory and packing areas generally
Medium term
  • Advanced training in the finer aspects of calibration
  • Providing a polite and efficient telephone enquiry service for clients ringing up for calibration enquiries, quotations, or chasing orders.
  • Answering customer email enquiries and sending out calibration quotes and orders by email
  • Troubleshooting problem paperwork and faulty equipment
  • Training in repairs and adjustments of faulty equipment
  • Arranging repairs of faulty equipment with third party organisations and liaising with both customer and third party throughout to achieve a speedy and efficient service (setting up and maintaining repair files is crucial)
  • Training in more advanced instrument calibration on a rolling programme of increasing sophistication.
  • Training in using spreadsheets for calculations
  • Gaining understanding and experience of and ultimately competence in reporting calibration results and certification
  • Training to assist with on site calibrations on customer premises
  • Upkeep and ongoing maintenance/ calibration of testing equipment
