BuyerPermanent PositionExcellent salary/package (Holiday: 25 days + 8 Statutory Days, Pension up to 8% matched, Life Assurance: 5x Basic Salary)Growing Manufacturing BusinessOn-site in BirminghamMy client are a precision manufacturing business, based in Birmingham, specialising in machining and assembly of high value low volume components. Working within the Supply Chain Team, the Buyer holds a key position in the timely and cost-effectiveprocurement of goods and services to support the production plans of the company. The Buyer will support the overall strategic procurement process in the delivery of the businesses five-year growth plan and provide day-to-day administrative support for theSupply Chain team.Buyer Job Description

  • General Purchasing administrative and non-administrative duties
  • Placing purchase orders securing the required lead times, driving quality adherence and pursuing best cost for direct materials and sub-contract services in line with the business demand (MRP requirements)
  • Issuing requests for quotation (RFQ’s/RFI’s/RFP’s) with focus on creating competitive tension between potential supplier providing the platform to make informed and sustainable sourcing decisions to support business requirements
  • Identify risks in the supply chain with focus to resolve using supplier development activities or resource activities to support business requirements.
  • Expediting / re-scheduling, agreeing delivery plans with suppliers, chasing outstanding items and formalizing / conducting structured and progressive supplier orderbook reviews
  • Handling PO revision changes
  • Proactively address material shortages to strive for MRP adherence and report material availability issues in a timely manner to support operations and planning requirements.
  • Ensure On Time Delivery of all items in line with the manufacturing plan.
  • Pro-actively seek cost reduction opportunities within the supply chain through negotiation and / or competitive tendering.
  • Ensure products / services are ethically sourced and to process
  • Support in developing AVL with local QA and with support of Category Management
  • Demonstrate sourced product is value for money (VFM) where best price is not possible – considering lead times, flexibility and quality.
  • Support QA/ENG and drive positive supplier quality performance for material, components and associated documentation / cert requirements
  • Consistent development of Key suppliers in line with QCDDM requirements.
  • Compiling and issuing KPI reports internally and to suppliers
  • Ensure that the ERP system is kept up to date.
  • Timely management of all emergent engineering, quality, and NCR activities to ensure and protect operational business continuity.
  • Liaising with suppliers, driving supplier performance with SQE / SDE to develop and build supplier capability and competency.
  • Effectively manage supplier relationships ensuring best practice purchase techniques are always considered.
  • Ensure process adherence and procurement governance in line with business requirements
  • Conduct ongoing account reviews with suppliers
  • Negotiate long term frame agreements with key suppliers in line with business requirements and supply chain strategy development.
  • Development of key commodity strategies with key stakeholder engagement to ensure business requirements can be efficiently executed.
Buyer Essential Skills / Experience / Qualifications
  • 1 – 2 years’ experience working in a buying role, for a manufacturing business
  • Experience of dealing directly with and influencing suppliers
  • Strong drive for results, confident, motivated and tenacious
  • Collaborative and a good team worker
  • Can-Do, Will-Do attitude, determined to continually improve the business
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong communicator (Both written and verbally)
  • Strong negotiation, influencing and persuasion skills
