Job Description

Your new roleThis is a 12-month internal secondment opportunity within the Corporate Assurance division of FBS. We are seeking applications only from people currently working in FBS. You will plan, supervise and ensure the delivery of internal audits and other control testing across the organisation, verifying adequacy and effectiveness of risk controls in place and providing evidences that feed into the annual corporate assurance statement. You will support the Head of Audit and Assurance in the development and implementation of robust systems and processes that lead to high quality planning, decision making, control and governance across Highways England.What youll be leading on

  • Contribute to the development of the audit delivery plan, designing the planning process, determining priorities and ensuring enough resources are available to deliver it in a timely and high-quality manner.
  • Support the Head of Audit and Assurance in strategically developing internal audit services through initiating, taking ownership and delivering an effective audit team.
  • Review audit and control testing documents developed by Senior Auditors, ensuring quality standards across the organisation.
  • Use professional skills and judgement to develop robust reports and opinions that meet quality and professional standards.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to a team of auditors on assignment, planning and delivery of the audit programme.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with senior clients and stakeholders, built on professional trust, developing, implementing and maintaining audit plans for assigned parts of the organisation and supply chain.
  • Attend and present at senior meetings as required, presenting key audit findings in a professional manner and being a trusted business advisor.

  • Currently working in FBS directorate.
  • Audit, accounting (CMIIA/CCAB) or other equivalent professional qualifications.
  • Experience in the development of audit strategies and plans, and working experience of successfully leading and undertaking audits.
  • Experience in successfully leading and managing the performance of assigned team, setting clear objectives and priorities for individuals.
  • Track record on delivering audit projects and programmes of work.
  • Extensive knowledge of audit and risk management principles and methodologies.
  • Ability to persuasively present sensitive and complex issues at the highest levels.
  • Ability to develop working relationships and maintain rapport with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
