Job Description

Assistant Project Manager (12 month Maternity Cover)Your new roleAre you a dynamic and driven Assistant Project Manager seeking an interesting new opportunityNational Highways is now recruiting for an Assistant Project Manager on a 12 month FTC to work within our Major Projects directorate. This role will be based in our Regional Infrastructure Programme team based in Birmingham, with a hybrid working arrangementwhich is operated throughout National Highways.In this role you will be specifically working on the HS2 Phase One Programme, contributing to the planning and delivery of projects, carrying out assigned project work to ensure the achievement of project objectives within the agreed time, quality, and costthresholds, maintaining effective governance, quality assurance, health and safety, technical and specialist standards.What youll be leading on

  • Contribute to the creation of timely and accurate reports, and create and maintain specified records.
  • Carry out assurance reviews and checks on HS2 proposals and consent applications for works over, under or adjacent to the Strategic Road Network.
  • Carry out assurance reviews and checks with a Health and Safety and a customer-first mindset to inform the NH decision-making process.
  • Plan and define project steps or schedules, consistent with defined review milestones and priorities associated with HS2 consent applications, and to contribute to the delivery of the overall project plan.
  • Contribute to the identification, implementation, and monitoring of day-to-day support for the project activities including compliance with HS2/NH agreements, risk management, Health & Safety, financial management and reporting, document control, assurance,and governance.
To be successful youll need to have:
  • Experience of working in a project office environment, with knowledge and/or experience in undertaking project administration tasks, including reporting, risk management & planning/programming.
  • A good understanding of health and safety requirements for working in the Highways sector.
  • A good understanding of customer requirements.
  • Evidence of working with internal and external stakeholders, demonstrating excellent communication skills with a high level of integrity & ownership.
  • Experience working within a governance framework to help deliver results.
