Aston University Students Union has a fantastic opportunity for an Accommodation Service Manager to oversee our not-for-profit student accommodation provision, The Green.Accommodation Service ManagerBirmingham, B4 7BXFull Time, Permanent£30,502 per annumDeadline for applications: 7th November 2022About UsAston Students Union (ASU) is a membership organisation for students studying at Aston University. The SU is led by elected student officers supported by a staff team. It is an independent charity and company that exists to impact positively on the lifeof Aston University students. The SU provides a range of services to enhance the student experience. Services are varied and include advice and support, a student representation framework, over 100 clubs and societies, an accommodation service, headline annualevents alongside much more.About Our Student Accommodation Aston Students Union operates a small not-for-profit student accommodation village at Aston Brook Green known as The Green.The accommodation is made up of a collection of converted Victorian terrace houses surrounding a pleasant communal green area. It has between 150 and 160 residents and is made up of one bed apartments, 4 bed apartments and 3 bed houses.The properties are managed from an on-site accommodation office.About the Service Manager RoleYou will work to develop both the accommodation and a student-led resident community, ensuring the efficient management of the affordable student accommodation project known as The Green.Main Duties and Responsibilities:

• To handle or manage the day-to-day administration of The Green
• To develop a student resident-led community who will facilitate community activity and events.
• To select tenants to live at The Green.
• To agree and sign tenancy agreements and to serve notices on behalf of Aston Students Union.
• To communicate effectively with tenants and all relevant third parties.
• To be responsible for financial issues in relation to The Green, including the negotiation of finance issues with the landlord housing association.
• To oversee and project manage repairs and maintenance.
• To oversee Health and Safety matters.
• To ensure appropriate security systems are in place and are well managed.
• To be responsible for The Green internet service.
• To be responsible for The Green community laundrette service.
• To lead on the development of a business strategy for The Green.
• To ensure relevant information relating to The Green is passed throughout the Students Union.
• Any other duties reasonably required by the Head of Membership Engagement.

About YouYou will be expected to display a positive image of Aston Student Union, uphold and demonstrate the unions values.It is essential you demonstrate:

• A "can do" positive attitude to challenges.
• Good general education, typically to degree standard, including Maths and English at least to GCSE or equivalent.
• Computer literacy (standard office software including spreadsheets) and keyboard skills.
• Ability to effectively promote and evaluate a service.
• Ability to present information clearly and concisely
• Ability to work effectively within a democratic structure
• Ability to take a constructive and co-operative approach to solving problems
• Ability to manage working time effectively
• Ability to motivate others to achieve.
• Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently
• Attention to detail

Ideally you will have:

• Experience of working in accommodation
• Experience of maintenance and property management
• Experience of managing budgets
• An understanding of student led organisations
• Good working understanding of a representative and democratic environment
• Knowledge and understanding of managing data protection.
• Demonstrable working knowledge of higher education
• Experience of strategically leading a team to produce clear results against set targets
• Experience of managing change
• Demonstrable experience of developing and maintaining relationships with stakeholders
