Job Description

Quality Engineer - QHS CoordinatorWe have the perfect role for you at a leading multi-million-pound distributor of high integrity non-ferrous metals based in Bedford.   • Monitor and maintain the quality requirements and approvals of customers
  • Perform regular gap analysis of customer quality requirements/specifications and implement updates to local practices
  • Identify training needs and organise training interventions to meet quality standards.
  • Support local management with the update of local procedures and flow down information to team members and/or suppliers
  • Actively support local management for reviewing the quality requirements for new opportunities and implement any necessary changes
  • Overseeing the ISO9001/AS9120 and Internal Audits
  • Actively support the QHSE Compliance Manager in internal and external audits:
  • Act upon issues raised in order to promptly return the process to conformance within assigned timescales.
  • Support local management with the assignment of root cause and compile corrective/preventative action plans for any non conformances or observations
  • Customer complaints
  • Review internal and external customer complaints and support the identification of root cause and assign corrective/preventative action to minimise risk of reoccurrence
  • Liaise with external suppliers to improve delivery and quality performance contributions to the SAM team
  • Work with warehouse and purchasing teams to increase quality and delivery performance
  • Work with sales teams to improve contract review process
  • Continuous assessment of suppliers to ensure accreditation is current and appropriate to meet requirements
  • Supplier audits to review performance and assess adherence to corrective actions based on continued complaints
  • Monitor internal and external QHSE risks and support the adjustment of local procedures accordingly to support business continuity
  • Ensure sufficient trained resource is available to cover absence both planned and unplanned
  • Review of supply base to ensure continued supply in the face of external events (COVID etc.)
  • Review the continued need for succession planning
We are looking for candidates with the following experience:
  • A proven background in quality control within a highly regulated industry
  • Ability to read and interpret specifications, Drawings and other Quality Documents.
  • Knowledge and experience of quality management systems such as ISO 9001, AS9120, or AS9100.

  • Strong willed and resilient with a good moral compass
  • Confident and willing to challenge norms both internally and externally. Also confident enough to know when to escalate
  • Process driven
  • A good ability to communicate with different character types
