Job Description

Osprey Measurement Systems, a designer and manufacturer of advanced instruments for the civil construction industry, is now looking for a Design Manager with Electronics and Embedded Software experience to join our team based in Sussex.The role can be performed remotely but will involve travel to our suppliers and external service providers as required. Office space is available in central London or Sussex if you’d prefer to work in the office. We offer a relaxed but enthusiastic and collaborative work environment. You will be joining a small team producing solutions for some of the largest and most exciting construction projects around the world.Osprey Measurement Systems create monitoring devices for the civil engineering industry. Our products have a strong focus on reliability, robustness, and precision. We are looking for a methodical, process driven, detail oriented engineer to ensure the highest quality output is achieved.You will be overseeing the integration of the software, electronics, and the mechanical design, and rigorously testing the resultant products. You will be working with external specialist consultants who facilitate our development process. You will be working with external contractors to develop efficient production processes that meet quality and performance requirements.The right candidate will be a motivated self-starter who thrives on technical challenges. They are well organised and take a clear, structured approach to problem solving and project management. They are a good communicator and leader who takes ownership of their role.Key Tasks/ Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop and test robust measurement devices intended for the civil engineering industry
  • Determine technical product requirements based on provided market requirements
  • Create and deliver product development work packages for external consultants and specialists
  • Manage external service providers, ensuring quality and timeliness of deliverables
  • Assume responsibility for project management process including budget, timeline, and quality management
  • Allocate and manage development tasks both internally, and to external specialist contractors
  • Conduct product and system risk assessments and develop mitigation plans to address identified risks
  • Oversee product verification, validation, and release process
  • Ensure designs meet market, statutory and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain version control/ release records and documentation
    • Other Duties/ Responsibilities:
  • Assist in development and implementation of plans, procedures and guidelines, and maintenance of records and registers in accordance with the ISO 9001 quality management system
  • Promote best practices across the department
  • Develop product manufacturing guidelines and inspection & test procedures for outsourced processes
  • Engage with suppliers, customers, and partners to facilitate product implementation from start to finish
  • Attend sites to support installations. Site conditions include heavy construction, rail, underground, mine and offshore environments
  • As part of a small and growing company, you will be involved in all aspects of business operations
    • Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree in relevant technical or engineering field (Manufacturing, industrial, mechanical, electronics)
    • Required Experience:
  • Experience in a leading or senior position in a product development team including application of project management concepts and practices
    • Desired Skills:
  • PCB design & assembly
  • Data acquisition (ADCs, sampling theorems, noise, accuracy, precision, dynamic range etc.)
  • Serial communication protocols
  • Familiarity with C and Python
  • Fusion 360, Inventor, or similar 3D modelling tool
  • MS Office, proficiency in MS Excel
  • Version control - ideally Git proficient
  • Good understanding of manufacturing methods and processes
  • Strong project management and organisational skills
