The role will be directly responsible for providing a high-qualityservice whilst meeting financial targets. The Operations Manager must ensure our customers are serviced in line with business expectations and key performance indicators, whilst working on commercial development, responsible for operational quality and financialperformance.The Operations Manager has a very varied role and requires someone who is extremely well organised and familiar with how a business operates. Working as an Operations Manager also requires someone with an outgoing personality and capable of negotiating withexternal agencies and maintaining business relationships, confident with leading a team and developing talent.KEY TASKS

  • You will be responsible for managing department budgets and will also be involved in setting targets in association with other senior managers.
  • The Operations Manager is expected to prepare reports on the performance of the branch and suggest and implement ongoing improvements in line with business processes that will enhance the customer experience and companys profit margins and as well as workclosely with other senior department heads for the benefit of the company.
  • Negotiate with suppliers and distribution networks to determine tariffs which should be in the interests of the company at all times.
  • Develop and maintain business relationships with both customers and suppliers.
  • Providing hands on support to the branch, advise and share industry knowledge, assist with staff training and development, acting as a mentor and positive role model, leading by example at all times.
  • Ensuring that there is regular & effective communication through team briefings.
  • Deal with a variety of commodities for all shipments.
  • Understand the whole life cycle of the shipments.
  • Deal with all queries quickly and efficiently.
  • Liaise with overseas agents and hauliers.
  • Build good working relationships with both customers and colleagues.
  • Meet and surpass branch KPIs.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • You will need to have at least 3 years experience in Airfreight and Seafreight freight forwarding as a supervisor or higher.
  • Strong decision-making skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail skills.
  • Ability to build, lead and motivate a skilled team able to meet objectives and agreed targets.
  • Proven management skills with the ability to optimise team performance and development.
  • Excellent problem solving, planning & organising skills.
  • Excellent Customer Service, Communication and telephone skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure using own initiative.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel/Word/Powerpoint
  • Adaptability
  • Understand and comply with all relevant Company rules, agreements, policies, procedures and with all relevant legislative requirements and codes of practice.
  • Ensure Company business is treated in the strictest confidence and not disclosed to persons outside the Company.
  • Experience using Cargowise system is preferable but not essential.
