What its like to work here Pattersons Spade Mill is the last working water-driven spade mill in daily use in the British Isles and is run by the National Trust. Before 1750, most spades in Ireland were made by blacksmiths, but by the early to mid-19th century, spades were producedin specialized mills. What youll be doing You will be assisting the Spade Maker with the manufacture of hand-crafted spades by traditional means to the standard required by the National Trust, and with all aspects of the operation of the property including visitor management and grounds maintenance.Occasionally situations may arise that require the post holder to perform other duties or tasks as may be reasonably requested by the National Trust. This post involved regular weekend and bank holiday working.This role will also involve evening classes, tours, weekend work and coversations with wider public, as part of raising awareness for thePatterson Spade Mill.
