Summary Would you like to do more for nature recovery in a diverse collection of green spaces in Belfast’s urban fringe We are looking for a confidentleaderandambitious team player who isup for the challenge of making our sites work better for nature and people.Thisis an exciting opportunity at a pivotal time as we make significant steps together with our visitors, supporters, staff, tenants, partner organisations and neighbouring landowners.We have big ambitions to restore nature and improve access across our portfolio which includes woodland, grasslands, coastland and uplands.You will be a part of the wider Belfast Portfolio ranger team, delivering at a landscape scale and finding betterways to do things.This post is funded under DAERAs Environment Fund Strategic Strand What its like to work here Belfast is a busy portfolio with large visitor numbers containing priority habitats across 12 diverse countryside properties. From the Maritime Cliff & Slope on the coastline at Islandmagee, or the habitat mosaic in the Belfast Hills that includes areasof Purple Moorgrass & Rush Pasture, Blanket Bog and Upland Heath. To the beautiful Wooded Glens at Cregagh, Collin and Glenoe or rolling farmland at Minnowburn, Lisnabreeny and Rowallane with their meadows and woodlands on the City’s fringe, there is a wonderfuldiversity of habitats that ensure there is never a dull moment. What youll be doing Reporting to the Countryside Manager, as Area Ranger youll lead a small, but flexible team covering a large area. With your endless enthusiasm for our work, you’ll help with the protection and care of habitats, wildlife, property, and machinery. Your passionwill inspire others to love these beautiful places as much as you do. You will share your work to a wide range of audiences, ensuring special places like these are both protected and enjoyed by everyone for ever. Producing seasonal work programmes, you willplay the key role in maintaining excellent standards of presentation and property maintenance.This varied role will include management and reporting on exciting projects such as a DAERA funded wetland creation and access project at Lisnabreeny and overseeing the replacement of access infrastructure at Cregagh Glen. You will be managing priority habitatsand historic landscapes, carrying out flora and fauna surveys, engaging with visitors and working with our tenant farmers and contractors.You will be tracking the progress of nature recovery work across the Belfast sites, reporting on progress to DAERA and the National Trust by monitoring the condition of Priority Habitats and species and tracking the progress of habitat restoration and creationprojects contributing towards our Land and Nature ambitions.The Belfast portfolio like many other countryside sites is experiencing levels of unprecedented recreational use and new audiences.
