An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Dairy/Grassland Scientist to join a leading Agriculture organisation.Location: Remote working with occasional site visitDuration: 4 months with potential extensionSalary: £38,017Hours of work: Monday to Friday 8.45am – 4.40pmThe organisation conducts animal science research in the areas of dairy, beef, pig, sheep and poultry production, nutrition, health and welfare and environmental emissions. This research is for a variety of customers ranging from commercial companies to governmental policy makers and local farmers.A current research programme is examining factors influencing silage quality, with the objective of improving silage quality. Within this project two plot studies have been undertaken, each over a two year period: in the first of these, the impact of fertiliser nitrogen type on nitrogen uptake was examined over three successive harvests, with plots destructively harvested on a regular basis to examine rate of nitrogen uptake. The second study examined the effects of removal of winter regrowth herbage at a number of times during the winter period on the quality of the silage made from the herbage following ensilage the following year.Main Purpose of Role:The studies are now complete and most of the lab analysis is now available. An experienced dairy/grassland scientist is required to collate the data from these two experiments, analyse the data, and write up the data into two scientific papers, and press releases.Much of the work can be completed remotely however on occasion visits to the Hillsborough site will be required.Essential Criteria:• A degree in a biological science or agriculture related subject.• PhD or MSc in biological science related subject• Excellent computer skills.• Extensive experience in managing data sets within Excel, and excellent excel skills.• An understanding grassland production systems/silage quality issues• Good writing communication skills as demonstrated in being named 1st author on a minimum of 2 peer reviewed scientific journal papers related to grassland and/or ruminant production.If interested, please send updated CV via the link below to Victoria Butler – Reed
