Ready to see where your ambition will lead youJob descriptionAre you an Engineer interested in working at the cutting edge of weapon technology, collaborating with private business and government on a national and international scale If so, we are actively looking for Engineers to join our Weapons Operating Centre,as part of the Defence Ordnance Safety Group (DOSG).In the DOSG, we need Engineers and Scientists involved in the delivery and support within our multi-disciplinary teams across the following areas:

  • Science and Technology - providing independent technical support, advice and guidance on the Safety and Suitability for Service of Ordnance, Munitions and Explosives (OME), and their associated facilities and platforms. You could be working within one ofthe following teams: Energetics Materials and Vulnerability Team, Initiation Systems and Electromagnetic Environmental Effects Team, Statistics, Modelling and Ballistics Team, Life Assessment Team.
  • Weapons Systems - covering all areas of OME and Lasers across Air, Land and Sea domains. You could be working first hand with rocket launch systems, laser technology and fire control systems.
We operate hybrid working and your duty station can be aligned at any of the following locations:
  • MOD Abbey Wood, Filton, Bristol BS34 8JH
  • Defence Munitions Gosport, Hampshire PO13 0AH
  • Defence Munitions Beith, Ayrshire KA15 1JT
  • MOD Boscombe Down, Salisbury, Wiltshire, SP4 0JH
Please note attendance to the stated sites will be required for this position. For all roles, there will be a requirement for occasional domestic travel to other UK sites.Due to the nature of security, these posts are reserved for sole UK nationals only.Please note, some of these posts may fall under the wider Weapons Operating Centre, depending on the skillset of the successful candidate.ResponsibilitiesIn this role, you will have the opportunity to:
  • Provide professional technical advice, guidance, and support on OME and platforms to stakeholders within and outside DE&S
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of OME developments, technical standards, policy and opportunities for application within the business
  • Supporting the development of national and international policy and standards, as required for the assurance of safety and suitability for service of OME
  • Ensure that DE&S and other MOD customers comply with statutory and MOD regulations, safety standards and best practice, supporting delivery teams in the assessment and management of OME Safety risk
  • Identifying, assessing and exploiting emergent technologies to support the delivery of cutting-edge capability
Person specificationTo be successful with your application, youll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:
  • Hold a HNC (i.e., Level 4 or higher) qualification in a relevant engineering or science discipline or be able to demonstrate equivalent experience
  • Experience with system/equipment/project safety
  • Experience of providing technical advice and delivery of successful engineering outcomes
