Job Description

This is a great opportunity to join Bath Building Societys IT Department and help us on our transformation journey building a platform for sustainable growth.The role is based at the Societys Head Office in the centre of Bath, but the successful candidate will have the flexibility to manage their own working pattern between home and office working subject to any core business requirements to be agreed with theHead of IT.The roleReporting directly to the Head of IT, the Senior IT Support Engineer role purpose is to support the Head of IT in all matters relating to the Societys network, infrastructure, security and applications, core systems and databases.You will

  • Have significant knowledge of networking, to. support the Societys internal and external networks.
  • Perform various systems administration functions, including but not limited to:
  • Maintenance and updating of automated tools for package deployments
  • Server build and design, server hardening
  • Ensure all licensing in place and readily demonstrable
  • Management of certificates, design, creation, purchase/renewal etc
  • Understanding of Hyper-V
  • Maintenance of automated systems for data extraction
  • Support third party applications
  • Resolve user and system issues at third line
  • Maintain security of applications through technical and non-technical measures (patching updates, best practice, password policy etc.)
  • Key point of integration for applications between provider and the business
  • Management of third-party application providers
  • Provide direction over the requirement for software deployment
  • Assess requirements and patch third party applications on a timely basis
  • Have a thorough understanding of network connectivity to all databases, file transfer protocols, configuration setting such as TNS. Knowledge of external addresses for third party connectivity. Awareness of internal and external networking topology
  • Support the IT security for Society, as relevant to cover system and databases.
  • Solaris/Linux server build, maintenance and hardening to include performing vulnerability scans and taking remedial action

  • Support for MS SQL and Oracle
  • Ensure Internal Control Framework requirements are met performing and designing such controls
  • Manage all aspects of BCP capability and organise tests as required relevant to core system and databases
  • Design and manage projects to implement change within the IT department and the business
  • Perform backup and restore testing as required, ensuring that backups techniques are up to date and relevant
  • Be responsible for audit visits, supplying information and discussing issues as required as related to the core system and databases and the MI process
  • Other IT related tasks as required by the Head of IT
Knowledge & skills:
  • Ability to approach problems logically, independently eliminating causes of problems and performing internet research. Consulting senior team members once these steps complete
  • Hunger and enthusiasm for knowledge. Always eager to learn new processes and technology. Willing to learn via study if required or appropriate (may be web-based rather than classroom)
  • Ability to work independently and within IT or cross-functional teams
  • Ability to consistently deliver a high level of customer service to our end users
  • Highly motivated to perform the job to a high standard, and to make a difference individually, within the team, and to the Society as a whole

  • Capable of working the core hours and being flexible to accommodate the requirement to work outside of these hours when required
