Job Description

Are you an experienced BuildingSafetyprofessional looking for a new challengeSovereign is a leading Housing Association, driven by our social purpose and were going through an exciting period of change, opening up opportunities to maximise the social impact of everything we do.We have a fantastic opportunity to join Sovereign as Senior BuildingSafety Manager. This is a key role within ourbuildingsafety team, acting as Sovereigns Accountable Person for buildingsafety and providing strategic subject matter expertiseand direction relating to our current and future assets.The RoleReporting into our Head of BuildingSafety and Compliance, you will be managing a small team of Fire Door Inspectors and BuildingSafety Managers, ensuring the robust management and reporting of all buildingsafety related issues of buildings within their control.Youll take overall responsibility to manage and demonstrate that all safetyactivities are being delivered, recorded, and maintained in relation to common parts of ourbuildings and in line withbuildingsafetylegislation.Responsibilities will include:

  • Assessing buildingsafety risks, putting measures in place to prevent major incidents in ourbuildings and accountability to provide a Safety Case Report to demonstrate how buildingsafety risks are being identified, mitigated, and managed
  • Ensuring that buildingsafety risks in higher-risk buildings are identified and rectified early on, demonstrating robust ongoing monitoring
  • Accountability for reporting activities surrounding BuildingSafety and Complianceactivities and responsibility for registeringbuildings and applying for Building Assurance Certificates
  • Ensuring and challengingsafetycompliance relating to key property themes includingfiresafety, gas safety, electricalsafety, asbestos management, legionellacontrol and lift safety
  • Conducting regular safety checks to give assurance that recordable and reportable checks on door closers, firefighting lifts and any other safety elements carried out are completed and evidenced
  • Engaging with the BuildingSafetyRegulator and the Regulator for Social Housing in a timely manner to ensure the provision of all information, requirements and requests in relation to Sovereigns property portfolio
Youll also carry out Horizon scanning, providing your knowledge and expertise to prepare Sovereign for any new/changes to legislation and guidance including the BuildingSafety Act and FireSafety Act.What were looking forYou should havesignificantdemonstrableexperience in a similar role with deep knowledge and expertise in buildingsafety and compliance, includingfiresafety. Youllhaveexperience gained from within large property portfolios, including taller buildings.Youll also have:
  • Level 6 CIOB Diploma in BuildingSafety
  • AIFireE Level membership to the Institute of Fire Engineers or equivalent
  • A wide knowledge base within residential property and related safety and compliance areas
  • Experience in the effective use and collation of accurate data, with an understanding of data breaches and associatedimplications, as well as preventing or managing a breach
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, managing both long and short term workstreams and priorities
  • Proven experience of building, leading, managing, and motivating teams both directly and indirectly
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationshipswith a range of stakeholders, including to C-suite
Ideally, youll hold Chartered membership such as RICS, RIBA or MCIOBWith offices in Bristol, Christchurch, Newbury, and Basingstoke, we can be flexible on your base location. Youllshareyour time between the office, home and visiting properties across our geography. There will therefore be an element of travel across ourregion so you should have access to transport and be happy to travel.What youll receive from us
