Job DescriptionJob Title:Principal Solution ArchitectReporting To:IT DirectorDirect Reports:noneLocation:Basingstoke, with regular travel to our London office.The job in a nutshellAn exciting new opportunity has arisen at Berry Bros. & Rudd for a Principal Solution Architect. Reporting to the IT Director, this role will be based from our Basingstoke office, with occasional travel to London. We are seeking to recruit an IT professional with a solid track record in designing and building architectures that enables business agility.You will design the evolution of our IT architecture and estate to deliver against the IT and Business strategy, working closely with your IT and Business colleagues and our key suppliers.Who you will work withInternal: IT Director, Head of IT Delivery, Head of Service Delivery, Head of Change, Head of Information Security.External: We have several key relationships with software vendors and implementation and support partners.What you will do

  • Responsible for the design of the overall IT architecture and technical governance of solutions for individual projects, leading to the modernisation of the digital technology estate, and the implementation of a solid technology foundation to deliver the Berry Bros. & Rudd 2025 vision and beyond.
  • Design the continued Berry Bros. Rudd’s Cloud/ SaaS Journey, evolving their Digital technology landscape and optimising their use of the SAP ERP.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to existing IT colleagues.
  • Assist in planning the IT roadmap and providing input to budget for Berry Bros. & Rudd, ensuring standards are implemented and optimised purchasing deals obtained.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of IT cost performance, service level achievement and productivity.
  • In partnership with the business, ensure that business cases are developed and successfully delivered.
  • Engage and align with internal stakeholders, other functions and business units, and external service partners and technology vendors.
  • Carry out other reasonable tasks as defined by the IT Director or as required in terms of group policies or statutory procedure.
  • Ensure that all working practices comply with Health and Safety legislation.

  • Ability to design solutions, translating vision into short-, medium- and long-term transitional architectures and ensure quality and consistency.
  • Ability to energise, develop and enable colleagues, suppliers and the organisation around your technology vision.
  • Deep self-awareness and application of influencing techniques to gain commitment and support.
  • Builds strong relationships and foster a culture of collaboration, both internally and with our external delivery partners.
  • Ensures strong delivery to the plan, holding people, suppliers and self to account.
    • Your Skills, Knowledge and Experience
  • Knowledge of multiples of Retail IT systems, SAP S/4 Product Suite, Mule Anypoint, Digital Commerce platforms and bespoke development with stacks such as LAMP, Node, etc will be beneficial.
  • Experience of solution design and delivering across multiple concurrent projects/programmes.
  • Experience engaging with, and working with external implementation partners and software vendors, providing technical governance across those multiple parties as part of project execution.
  • Experience of designing and delivering hosted/managed and cloud solutions.
  • Exceptional leadership skills, with the ability to develop and communicate design concepts, architectural vision, inspire and motivate staff, and maintain alignment with the business strategy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain and "sell" the solution concepts and objectives to the business, as well as technical leadership.
  • Strong business and commercial acumen. Familiarity with industry technology trends and innovation.
  • Excellent analytical, planning and execution skills
  • Experience across a range of project types.
  • High net-worth customer and retail industry, business experience.
