Job Description

Recruiting now! We are looking for a Machine Shop Supervisor to join a company who design and manufacture (at their Basingstoke site) high-quality capital equipment. They are leaders in their field, with experience and expertise to deliver solutions to abroad range of customers. These include small and large businesses across many different industries such as chemical, food and pharmaceutical.As Machine Shop Supervisor, you will assist in the development of in-house machining capability to support the production of parts utilised in machine builds or sold as spares. They have a medium sized machine shop, and have recently invested in CNC machiningcapability, with ambitious plans to make further investment in strategic machine tools.Although you will be supervising a team, this hands-on role will include Machinist duties.Salary, location & working hoursPermanent role. Location: Basingstoke with free on-site parking. 39 hours per week Monday - Thursday 7am-4pm and Friday 7am-12 Friday. Holiday 25 days, plus bank holidays. Pension 5% company contribution. Also on offer is a generous salary to reflect yourlevel of experience.Supervisory responsibilities:

  • Manage day to day priorities, production and issues, escalating as required.
  • Motivate staff to be willing, responsive and flexible, ensuring parts are made on time to planned hours
  • Ensure drawn requirements are translated into manufactured components in the most efficient manner
  • Manage tooling selection, storage and use to optimise productivity
  • Introduce best practice, such as 5s & Lean initiatives
  • Develop approaches and manage machinery assets for longevity, performance and availability
  • Communicate for the section on opportunities for efficiency and effectiveness improvements for the business
  • Mentor and trainer to any apprentices or trainees, assisting in their development in acquiring machine shop skills
Machinist responsibilities:
  • Machining in various materials including: Stainless Steel, Mild Steel, Phosphor Bronze, PTFE, various plastics and others as requested
  • Set and operate CNC and manual machine tools
Experience required:
  • An extensive working background in machine shop experience, with a minimum of 2-3 years experience at a supervisory level
  • Conversant in reading engineering drawings and manufacturing work instructions
  • Proficient in the use, and ideally calibration of measuring equipment
  • Experience in programming, setting and operating CNC milling machines and lathes
Experience in Hurco VMX50t Machining Centre, HAAS SL40 Lathe with live tooling would be a distinct advantageWould you like to join a company where the people are passionate, engaging and driven Apply immediately, we look forward to hearing from you.
