Job Description

Are you an experienced fire safety professional looking for a new challengeWe have a fantastic opportunity to join Sovereign Housing in a brand new position as a FireSafety and Compliance Specialist. This is a key role in the business, providing strategic fire expertise and direction to the whole organisation relating to our current and future assets.As a leading Housing Association, Sovereign are committed to providing quality, affordable homes and services within sustainable, successful communities. Were led by our values and driven by a strong social purpose, placing our residents at the heart ofeverything we do.The RoleYoull be the Accountable Person for fire building safety and compliance areas, taking responsibility for ensuring that Sovereign adheres to its regulatory and legislative obligations. and providing subject matter expertise across the business.Responsibilities include:

  • Leading on the development, oversight and management of all fire related cyclical servicing, inspection, and upgrade programmes ensuring all activity is evidenced
  • Accountability for ensuring our fire risk assessment programme is conducted in line with PAS79/PAS79-2 and adheres to the Fire/Building Safety Acts, Fire Safety Order, and any emerging legislative changes
  • Overall accountability for data related to Building (Asset) Safety and Compliance, ensuring that data is held centrally for full transparency and that suitable contract arrangements are in place for the continued management all compliance elements
  • Identifying, reporting, and escalating any non-compliance fire activities or breaches, recommending any remedial actions
  • Being the central point of contact for liaison with the Primary Fire Authority
  • Horizon scanning for any changes to regulatory requirements for fire which may impact the way Sovereign manages its assets
With offices in Bristol, Christchurch, Newbury, and Basingstoke, we can be flexible on your base location. Youll share your time between the office, home and visiting properties across our geography. There will therefore be an element of travel across ourregion so you should have access to transport and be happy to travel.What were looking for:You should have demonstrable experience in a similar role, evidencing significant technical expertise in fire building safety within the Housing sector. Youll have experience in passive and active fire measures, in depth practical knowledge of fire riskassessments and risk mitigations as well as demonstratable high level contract management. Youll also have:
  • A solid understanding of fire safety legislation, the Fire Safety Order, Fire Safety (England) Regs, the Fire/Building Safety Acts and building regulations
  • A Level 4 qualification in Fire Safety as a minimum and ideally a Level 5 diploma in fire engineering design or willingness to work towards this
  • A thorough understanding of data breaches, associated implications, and industry standards of preventing or managing a breach
  • A track record in leading building safety fire related activities across an organisation and ensuring associated compliance data is accurate, kept up to date and is accessible
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • The ability to build and maintain trusted relationships with a variety of stakeholders
  • Meticulous attention to detail and proactive approach to problem solving
  • Membership of the IFE / IFSM or an equivalent membership body
