Job Description

I am currently recruiting Senior Clinical Coders across three different sites in Essex to join a publicly funded healthcare service. Offering a salary ranging from £24907 - £36150 (Band 5), my client is seeking candidates to assign correct clinical codes to Diagnoses and Operative Procedures against nationally agreed standards. You will produce reliable clinical information for commissioning, reimbursement (based on HRG assignment), audit, research and performance indicator production based on said agreed standards. The post-holder will work with clinicians on a regular basis to help validate their coding in order to produce more accurate coding and facilitate the Payment by Results process.Responsibilities will include:

  • Attending seminars and training courses in order to receive and interpret clinical coding updates and effectively communicate these to all necessary staff
  • Acting as lead contact with designated specialties and communicate complex issues with clinicians on coding queries relating to diagnoses and operative procedures in order to ensure accuracy and consistency of information
  • Abstracting and analysing complex clinical information from patient records and translating into a coded format in line with National Standards
  • To code the specified number of episodes on a daily basis
  • Act as mentor and assist in the education of less experienced coders
  • Using national and international rules/conventions governing the use of the statistical classifications (ICD10 and OPCS4) as laid down by the World Health Organisation
  • Ensure patient records are processed in the correct manner and paper records are tracked to appropriate destinations using the computer tracking system
  • Skills and Qualifications
  • Accredited Clinical Coding Qualification (ACC)
  • Use of OPCS-4.9 and ICD-10
  • 5 GCSEs including English & Maths or equivalent
  • Demonstrable clinical coding experience across all specialties and levels of complexity
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology; Anatomy and Physiology
  • Ability to analyse and abstract complex records or data
  • Apply coding conventions accurately and consistently
